If you have tenure at Texas A&M and aren't maliciously emailing the president a dozen times every day to ask if you can say this or you can say that, then what's the point in having tenure?

“All the evidence we have seen suggests that this had nothing to do with gang enforcement—no one was arrested on any charge remotely related to gang activity. It appears that DPS simply raided this house because the people throwing a party were Latinos from another country.”
In April, state + fed police raided a bday party near Austin, arresting ~50 people including nine kids.

Cops claimed w/o evidence they’d busted a Tren de Aragua gathering, + only charged two people w/ a crime.

Now, the local DA has dropped both charges

Pending drug charges have been abandoned from the multi-agency April operation that supposedly targeted Tren de Aragua and led to multiple deportations.

The Texas SBOE has appointed a few charlatans to the panel of experts re-writing the social studies and history standards. They’ve tried this kind of thing before—there’s even a PBS documentary about it.

I didn’t ask to live through I time when headlines like this could be written.
My latest AI feature dives into a nebulous movement of people sharing esoteric codes, manifestos, glyphs, diagrams, and poetry generated with chatbots, all of it based around theories of AI sentience and mysterious metaphors about spirals.

Let the people say AMEN!
Also, the reason people say dumb stuff and struggle to interpret complexity online has very little to do with reading comprehension and everything to do with the interpretation, ideology, & the perverse incentive structure of platforms. Do not blame 3rd grade teachers for bad Twitter takes ffs! 😩

There's a lot that Emily Hanford doesn't say in her reporting on SoR. Research on reading points to the complexity, nuance, contextuality, and diverse influences on becoming a successful reader. This is a great overview of a few of the issues with how journalists frame Science of Reading.

I should never be surprised when big tech makes bad decisions, but I can also still be big mad about it.
It’s wildly disingenuous for @aaron.bsky.team to reply to queries about Sarah Kendzior’s suspension about how they don’t comment publicly on individual users when he knows that we all know that they haven’t even told her privately what the basis for the suspension is

CITATIONS! Omg, yes. Like, yes, Google Scholar kinda works, and Zotero kinda works… But a system that could actually clean up hiccups and convert from one to another, get capitalization right? I’d pay so much money. And then my editors could spend time on my prose!
