If we limit warming to the Paris Climate Agreement of 1.5ºC, then we don't have to worry about dangerous levels of sea-level rise, right? Actually, no. Our research suggests that this is too warm. 🧵 1/n phys.org/news/2025-05...

I used to show Stephen Colbert's piece: "The Word: Sink or Swim" from the Colbert Report every year when I taught sea level in intro level classes - it was such a great teaching tool and so fun! But the comedy central website is gone-does anyone have a recording of it anywhere??

Crawford immediately recuses herself. SEE HOW THAT WORKS?!! Not that hard. This is why we should all be voting for Crawford, who actually models ethical behavior. Go to myvote.wi.gov for your ballot and polling locations. Vote early! Take a friend along!!

LOL 😂 Wisconsin AG SUES Elon Musk for trying to pay people (bribe them) for their votes. Case randomly gets assigned to Susan Crawford who is running for State Supreme Court and whom the bribes are meant to get people to vote against.

This phrase has always stuck with me as the best definition of what science is - ever since I saw it on my 7th grade science textbook (my best effort at recreating this textbook cover shown here) - and long before I ever knew I was going to be a scientist.

Congratulations to Earth Scientists (and colleagues of mine) Larry Edwards (UMN) & Richard Alley (Penn State) who were awarded the National Medal of Science, the nation's highest honor for science. These two have been blazing trails helping us to understand our climate system for decades.

Just another day in America where you wonder if your kids will come home from school. Where enough people care about their guns more than our kids. This culture has to stop.

Jay Inslee tells #AGU24: “scientists have a lot more power than they think.” He recommends scientists should connect with their elected officials to help make a difference to address climate change and the clean energy transition. I couldn’t agree more!

Whoever came up with the theme for this year’s AGU Fall meeting really hit the mark.

...That while WAIS retreat would flood coastal real estate around the world, it would simultaneously open up real estate on the sea floor. So I guess maybe the octopuses will be happy 🐙. Meantime:
