The american inability to read subtitles is utterly bizarre. Is this an illiteracy thing, or some daft anglophone isolationist drivel? Why would anyone prefer plastering disjointed clumsy dubs over the actors performances?

A fairly vanilla girl meet girl coming of age story, except that is set in Nairobi where queerness is criminalized. While the story may be tediously familiar, the cinematography and the locale is absolutely spellbinding. Almost every shot is an explosive orgy of vivid colour.

Summertime is a gorgeously shot exploration of queer later-in-life romantic and sexual awakening, and Cecile de France really nails the confused euphoric hot mess that is that first queer experience that simultaneously ruins and saves your life.

One of my favourite sapphic films. Set in France during the 1970’s women’s liberation movement, a rural farm girl strikes up a romance with a Parisian feminist organizer, but contrary to the trope, it’s the city gal that’s the inexperienced comphet in need of a sapphic sensei.
