I am on track to reject 8/8 papers I am in charge of for this conference :( But man when one literally doesn't even include a single reference... felt bad to even bother sending that to reviewers. (but supposed to by the conference policy)

I went to Safeway (stupid I know), gave the cashier my card, but it didn't scan correctly or something and my price basically doubled, which I only realized once I got home. These Safeway cards should be illegal

For my job, years ago I released open source software to map floods with satellite imagery. (Like, floods with water.) Got an email from someone who wanted to repurpose my software to make an app to map a new kind of flood--- the "flood of homelessness".
The craziest thing I have to deal with now re: AI is what I call App Men. Every now and then, someone will come to the library and tell me they want to make an app "with AI", like "I want to make an app to identify plants, with AI". And every time, they don't know anything about plants or AI.

there’s a thing here about for the last decade or so, online people have been very negative about small talk - the weather, or local news, or whatever - and small talk is the grease that keeps physical interactions going, and i am tired of ceding that to shut-ins
i say thank you to the bus driver when i get on and yell thank you when i get off every day i ride the bus, and i take two buses to and from work, being nice and friendly costs you nothing and should be your default expectation for yourself because it improves your day and everyone else’s day
Being nice to people is just fun. Asked young server at taco place how her day was going (fine but tired) and she asked me back. I said I managed to finish my to-do list and she unexpectedly gave me a high five! Treating people like people is always rewarding.
