Dad, scientist, nut. Navigating an increasingly crazy world and trying to leave it better than I found it.
I read it as “GOAT BATH” which also doesn’t make sense but is much better.

I write cursive notes nearly every day because I’m working in a lab and nobody’s come up with a better free-form random access medium than pen and paper. iPad plus Apple pen is almost there right up until you knock it off the bench or spill coffee on it. Or forget to charge it.

… but Big Tech has long ago forfeited the benefit of the doubt when it comes to harmful behavior. The record of pushing boundaries and outright breaking laws is long. The burden of proof of on them. There is no right to presumption of good faith or good intent.

Require decent wages, require robots to be as safe as human delivery or safer. Let the business figure out if they can do it profitably and if not they’ll shut down. There is no right to convenience.

Robots will eventually be able to do it just fine. IDK if we’re there yet…

If the service can’t be provided without either paying starvation wages or imposing hazards on the unwilling public then it should not be provided at all. Why is that confusing? Profit isn’t some intrinsic good that must be accommodated at all costs. Some businesses are good, some bad. Simple.

The end game is not just to reduce access to education. It’s also to make higher ed more dependent on private gifts, and so more compliant with the wishes of the donor class. Billionaires aren’t going to donate to schools pursuing research with results inimical to their interests.

It gave me citation to a paper written by my boss, one he didn’t write. It linked to a paper in a whole different field written by someone else.

On the plus side, the fake paper was a review of exactly the topic I wanted, so for a brief moment before clicking the link I was genuinely happy.

His idea of “evidence” is anything that supports his racial supremacy pseudoscience, delusional savior complex, and childish egomania.

I’ve been calling it boot camp for the immune system. It doesn’t guarantee surviving the fight but it massively increases the odds, not just for oneself but also for everyone nearby regardless of whether they are vaccinated. It’s training, not prevention or cure.

Techbros driven by greed find it impossible to understand people motivated by service, creativity, or simple love of excellence. Ironically these were major motivations for many of the people who invented the internet, web, and linux (which runs most web infrastructure).
