Why do I feel like I am looking at staged miniatures in this painting? No shade on Starlin’s ability to render in paint but there is an airless quality that has always bothered me.

One of Milgrom’s last minute cover saves no doubt.
The more I stare at this cover the more it falls apart compositionally. The lighting is all over the place.
I know that Gil Kane was employed as Marvel’s regular cover artist during the 70s, but I so wish Gene Colan had been allowed to do the covers for such an atmospheric book.
