In all seriousness, I'd love to see a reporter try to get comments from all of these people about their initial impulse to declare a literal war on half of their fellow citizens and to see if any of them regret it, apologized for it or learned anything at all from it.
like this is the most irresponsible level of hysteria i’ve ever seen. most of these people are either paid by the republican party, or are high level advisors and allies. this is insane

Fifth Circuit takes another L.
The Supreme Court's first decision of the day is NRC v. Texas. By a 6–3 vote, the court holds that Texas and a private company cannot, under the Hobbs Act, sue to block the creation of off-site storage for nuclear waste. 5th Circuit REVERSED yet again. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24p...

The recent MAHA Commission called kids in America "the sickest generation in American history in terms of chronic disease"

It failed to mention the HUGE progress we have made in childhood mortality over the past 50 years

Deaths for every age group of kids down 50-75%

Three things made the US a rich and powerful nation: the rule of law, its science & innovation system, and openness to foreign talent. Remarkable how Trump has taken a sledgehammer to all three. No enemy of this country could do more.

Tangentially, the yield on Treasury bonds should be at least 2x higher, because the Seila Law cases, including this one, show SCOTUS would allow the President to fire members of the Federal Reserve Board.

(The counterargument isn't a legal one, it's "nuh uh cuz they know that'd be catastrophic.")

Maybe CNN can take a minute from promoting their anchor's own book and do some reporting on the currently cognitively impaired president.
⚡️Zelensky had to remind Trump peace talks already underway during call with EU leaders, Axios reports.

Donald Trump told the leaders that Vladimir Putin agreed to start direct negotiations on a ceasefire immediately, which led to a few seconds of "puzzled silence," Axios reported.

The president is using the power of his office to line his own pockets, and doing it in broad daylight too.

This is a five-alarm fire.
This is a personal payday for the President, correct? Based on concerns he might use his official powers to block a business deal. How is this different from extortion?

This is a good thread but I will say it was encouraging to hear Sauer bring up the Trumbull letter and not a single conservative justice asked a follow-up.

Almost like you could hear their eyes rolling.
Highly recommended thread. Just wanna say something about originalism right quick.

There is no plausible originalist argument for anything that the SG said today. None whatsoever.
Thrilled to learn from DOJ's argument that the 14th Amendment applied to the "children of former slaves, not illegal immigrants, who didn't exist as a class yet" that modern firearms are not protected by the Second Amendment!

The fact that even the conservative justices (thinking of Alito here) really do not want to get to the merits of this case should show how lopsided the issue is, and that just seems like a sticking point for them.
May 15, 2025 at 4:29 PM
Gorsuch asks Feigenbaum the same question he asked Sauer: How do you get the merits of this case to us quickly?

Gorsuch seems to want to resolve the issue.

This was a fun moment.
Barrett, incredulously: “This administration’s practice? Or the longstanding practice of the federal government.”

Sauer says it’s “longstanding.”

Barrett (with heavy doubt): Really?
May 15, 2025 at 3:13 PM
Sauer lets it slip that it isn’t clear the Admin will win on the merits.

Going pretty poorly for Trump.
