I wanted to listen to the first K.W. album from 2014 for the last day of #MWE
It was clear immediately that she has the juice for the genre. Erin Rae and Margo Price lend back-up vocals here.
Songs of heartbreak, humor, & the spaces in-between. "High in Heels" & "Getting There" floored me.

Nothing wrong with this. This Michigan musician's 4th album has no bad songs on it. I'll reiterate that people seem unwilling to dig for good contemporary country. Authentic and classy through and through. Dawg, I'll forever be a fan of this genre.

I loved when the trumpet would rear its lovely head every now and then throughout this album. There is an inherent mellowness to this LP. I am palpably calmer and more relaxed than I was before pressing play on this CD. A.F. gives midwest emo a good name.

Cool, crunchy album. The lyrics didn't leave as much as an impression on me as the playing did. I appreciated "Rain King" and "Eliminator Jr." quite a bit. Kim fucking Gordon! Thurston goddamn Moore! Lee darn Ranaldo! I'm going to start smoking cigarettes.

Jesus, I really didn't realize what I was getting myself into here. Very raw, emotional album. This is often hard to listen to. A pungent rumination on grief.
"Ravens" and "Soria Moria" are absolutely beautiful. Tomorrow isn't promised to any of us.

This is what it's all about.
Numero strikes again. I like the songs "I Need Your Lovin'" and "Do Lord" most. The lore of this band is cool — true Tsimshian nomads. Surfy do-wop undulates and wobbles over forty enjoyable minutes.

I'd only heard the two most recent K.W. albums, so going back through her discography is a treat. Not just anyone gets signed to John Prine's 𝘖𝘩 𝘉𝘰𝘺. People may be unwilling to dig, but country music is in good hands because of troubadors like Waldon.

I'll say this: the instruments are clearly played very well. Ryan Bartlett's voice just doesn't do it for me. I think the range he's in comes with the territory. He's a good singer, I just don't love emo enough. First sour taste from an #MWE album this month.

The coolest band to come out of Denver since Slim Cessna's Auto Club.
Punishing riffs, brütal guttural utterances—I love it. The lore of our species is not good. Blood Incantation have un-cornified deathmetal in a big way for me.

I've always appreciated John Dwyer and Osees ability to craft garageish prog-punk that makes king gizzard look like un-earnest dorks in the process. This album keeps a steady pace and rips by before you can find all the different name-variants this band has employed.

𝘙𝘰𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 by Fontaines D.C.
Sometimes a little creepy—alt-rock from Dublin has and always will be some of the most important and boundary-pushing (see m.b.v!). Less rugged than previous FDC albums, 𝘙𝘰𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦's sheen works in its favor. I liked "In The Modern World" and "Death Kink" most.

𝘐 𝘞𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘢 𝘎𝘰 𝘏𝘰𝘮𝘦 [2009] is Shannon & The Clams' debut album.
Oakland's own have truly remained undefeated ever since. Enlightening to hear before the 𝘌𝘢𝘴𝘺 𝘌𝘺𝘦 𝘚𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥 era and Dan Auerbach-ification of this band. No questioning that S&TC are among the best garage rock bands of all time.

POWER PANTS' first album 𝘗𝘗 is delightfully up-beat and irreverent garage-punk. I dig the old-school scuzzed-out vocals that are still intelligible.
Self-described as Egg Punk — still trying to figure out exactly what that is, but this gives me a better idea. Fuck yeah, Winchester,Virginia!

The pendulum has swung and British postpunk is cool again.
Glistening guitars that also shimmer fill each song.
𝘎𝘶𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘥 𝘛𝘰𝘶𝘳 is a case-study in sometimes shouting is better than screaming.
My favorite moment was the transition between "Mind's a Lie" & "Gone Forever".

THRONE have such a prolific output and work ethic. 𝘛𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘦𝘴𝘵 was released between 𝘙𝘖𝘠𝘈𝘓 𝘑𝘌𝘓𝘓𝘠 & 𝘚𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘉𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘚𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘬𝘴. 3 albums in 2024 alone. The Hidden Renaissance emcees kick this album up a notch. Put everyone here on 𝘎𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘥𝘢 or 𝘙𝘩𝘺𝘮𝘦𝘴𝘢𝘺𝘦𝘳𝘴.

There are no duds or sore-thumbs on this album. Released in 1999, this sound would carry into the new century. This band was enormously influential on the college-radio/alt-rock canon and beyond. My favorite songs were the opener and the closer.

Flatbush Zombie Erick the Architect's debut solo album is often heartfelt and vulnerable. This thing is filled wall-to-wall with good ideas, and Erick occupies each song to the fullest. "Jammy Jam" and "Parkour" were my favorite songs.
