It causes me physical pain when I see non-Canadian spelling in official contexts. Center instead of centre, honor instead of honour. In/on 🇨🇦 newspapers, websites, products, and more. I know it’s a trifling thing to most, but to me, these quirks of Can. (& UK) Eng. matter. They say who we are NOT.

This. 100 per cent.
There is genuine mismanagement, and then there is Ford underfunding school boards and then blaming the trustees for not balancing their books (on the backs of special needs children primarily), and he doesn't differentiate between the two while he centralises authority over education.
Doug Ford says people ‘done’ with school board spending scandals as his education minister considers axing trustees
"There's some good and there's some bad ones," the premier said Wednesday morning after an announcement in Caledon.

This story is a SUPERB way to describe the need for political parties to limit membership and prevent entryism, on both the left and right (but right is the bigger problem at the moment). So many parties in so many countries have fallen out of political normalcy by serving that guy
This little parable is a nice illustration of why it is important for mainstream parties to set and uphold clear, bright line anti-prejudice norms, and of why the failure of senior Conservatives to do so risks doing great harm to their party

“My vote doesn’t matter.”
In 2022, 56.5% of Ontarians didn’t vote. Doug Ford won a majority because 18% of Ontarians voted PC.

“I don’t know what the issues are.”
Talk to people you trust to find out.

“It doesn’t matter who wins.”
It matters very much to someone you care about.

@charlieangus104.bsky.social being epic, as usual. This is the energy we all need to channel right now.
At the NATO meeting a loud US republican saw my CDN flag pin on my lapel and reached for it saying, "Hey Canada."
I stopped him.
"Don't touch the Canadian flag."
"Just joking," he said.
"You'll die before you touch our flag," I said, "not joking."
He scrambled out of there.

I desperately wish people were paying more attention to the reality of Doug Ford’s Ontario and less to his sideshow distraction tactics and “likable” persona. Kudos to @graphicmatt.com for calling out Ford on just one issue we should all be so, so angry about. www.thestar.com/news/doug-fo...
Matt Elliott: Doug Ford has money for $200 cheques and a 401 tunnel — where are the funds to address homelessness?
A report puts the number of people who experienced homelessness in Ontario in 2024 at 81,515.

Apart from being despicable... This is an utterly insane way to behave at a moment when we're fighting the U.S.
Poilievre's Indigenous policy looks a lot like a threat. This is him saying the feds will cut funding for ISC, replace it with tax room - and if we allow resource development in our territories, we can tax it to replace the money the feds took. I.E. let the pipeline through, or no drinking water.

This, 100 per cent. I don’t care if you vote Lib or NDP. Vote for the left (or centre-ish) candidate in your riding with the best chance of beating the Cons. Just fucking VOTE.
Please: Anyone but Doug Ford.

Ford is uniquely unqualified and unsuited to be a leader for this moment. His years in office have been defined by shortages — a lack of homes, doctors, teachers, jobs, skilled workers, subways, buses, and bike lanes. #Opinion

Of all the things that might cause me to panic, especially right now, this isn’t even remotely on the list.
If you haven’t made a fruitcake yet, don’t panic! This Chocolate Fruitcake doesn’t need to mature, and is relaxingly easy to make. The chocolate bit is in fact cocoa, which provides a hint of bitterness that offsets the intense sweetness of the dried fruit beautifully www.nigella.com/recipes/choc...
Chocolate Fruit Cake
This is the perfect cut-and-come again cake for any time of the year. It lasts for a fortnight, but has the squidgy fabulousness of something so much less serviceable-sounding. I know there are a lot ...
