Community based not for profit services should be part of our essential community infrastructure. This should be discussed at the national Education Ministers meeting and a national agreement and support package developed. @jasonclaremp.bsky.social
Maribyrnong council voted to commercialise a longstanding not-for-profit childcare centre. Please sign the petition to keep it community based and affordable.

Recommend a follow
A helicopter hovers overhead, then flies off:

“Where’s it gone?” I ask my 2 year old

“It’s gone to see its mummy for some milk”

I glimpse her minds eye.

Note to self: Fully appreciate children’s thinking before bulldozing it with my own.

We’re getting on with it with real cost of living relief. Thats my goal.

Figures out today show that Aussie families have saved more than $2700 through child care. #jobs #relief

Every morning we wake up to more horror – but worse than that, more people who are seemingly indifferent to it. Compassion burnout is real, but it is also what power wants. Empathy keeps us human and yes, it is heavy, but it's a burden worth holding ♥️

Preparing for a month of gathering stories from Educators and Educational Leaders. New year, new notebooks. I bought a stack of these because they intrigue the story tellers, making them more comfortable with sharing.

This is a beautiful thread about the value of taking the longer view ‘what’s always possible if you think ahead’
If all around you seems rather despair-inducing, here's a little reminder of whats always possible if you think ahead. Here's Highland crofter/teacher/jeweller Merlin Planterose standing in a woodland on Isle Martin... 1/3

The year in early childhood education in Australia is building up. ECAs calendar looks promising. The major conference is in Perth this year! (Mercifully a 35km commute rather than a 7200km commute like last year)

Christmas advice from the Orkneys
Imagine the scene. It's dark. It's snowy and cold outside. A family are trapped together in a house. Tensions rise. People start to argue. Somebody gets bumped off in the night. A detective arrives. 🔪

You can avoid all that by just sitting reading your Agatha Christie book.

Year 12 results are out soon. This is your annual reminder to NOT share your child’s results without their permission. Whether high or low. Don’t do it. The results belong to them. Ask permission first.

Trying my hand at translating a written work as a part of learning a language. Take one book, research its background, read it twice, begin. Respect to everyone who has ever done this. Deep, deep respect to those who have to translate every conversation every day.

Early childhood services are working on applying for the Australian government workforce retention grant. It’s a process but the aim is in the name, it’s fantastic to have this while the award is being sorted. One fact that has sparked discussion amongst Educators is: 👇

EC update: Still a staffing crisis. Still reports of using Educational Leaders (Curriculum Leadership) to fill staffing gaps rather than doing their jobs guiding quality. But worse, now getting reports of reduction (yes ⬇️) in professional learning. Quality matters. We need to put this into law #nqf
