They want all the privileges, none of the responsibilities, and that's what they assume everyone else wants to. To them society just is an endless battle among factions & tribes to claim privileges & avoid responsibilities.

Petulant children.

We’re going to steal your shit unless you expressly state you don’t want us to steal your shit, and be very specific about which shit you would prefer us not to steal ‘cause if it ain’t on your list it’s ours now

What I can’t stop hearing is that you caved after saying forever you wouldn’t allow a cave unless one (1) demand was met, and whether the demand was ever going to be met notwithstanding, you ended the shutdown by explicitly submitting to the demand not being met

Though Trump’s pardons can’t extend to state crimes, I think it’s worth pointing out the message being conveyed:

Trump’s allies are alleged to have stolen data from state voting systems in an effort to help him overturn an election he lost.

Now he’s pardoning them for it.

News coverage of this has focused on the pardon of those involved in the fake electors plot.

But the pardon also extends to key figures who participated in the unauthorized breach of voting systems in Coffee County, Georgia

My reporting on the breach: www.lawfaremedia.org/article/what...

Outcomes aren't important to anyone, just positioning yourself as the pathetic dupes crying that the wallet inspector never gave it back. Voters love this. Excuses are so much better than delivering, and people really respect marks.

Most alarmingly, only Senators trapped in this bubble could believe, against all evidence, that preserving the filibuster is a pro-democracy, save-the-Republic move, as opposed to the very thing that is rotting away the Republic, which is the deep disconnect between elections and policy outcomes.
I imagine what actually scared them into caving was the threat of Trump getting Republicans to actually eliminate the filibuster

standing up to Trump "didn't work" in 2025 just like running on democracy "didn't work" in 2024 just as running against Trump in 2016 "didn't work." this CW is simply a justification to avoid further conflict driven out of risk aversion.

I think that is certainly true to an extent. However, the timing of the cave suggests another worse possibility: the Senate Dems were always planning to cave and were just holding out til last Tuesday, so it didn't depress turnout.
