Trump never looks so happy as when he is pleasing Putin. Same grin as when he invited the Russians to the Oval Office after firing Comey. Despicable.

RIP Ralph Munro, former WA SOS. In 1976 he witnessed an orca capture in Puget Sound and was so appalled he led State efforts to stop them. That's the only reason that J, K and L pods are still here today. A hero, a friend, and the only Republican I've ever voted for. 🦑https://tinyurl.com/5nwd48mf

Our hearts go out to everyone at NOAA. The Whale Trail would not exist, and Springer would not be home, and the southern residents would not be protected, without the courageous, dedicated and talented staff we've been privileged to partner with these many years. 🦑

The attempted mugging of a visiting president was about the world war that Musk, Trump, and Vance have chosen. If we attend to what Vance and Trump said yesterday, we can work our way to the unreason of American policy, and to the chaos that will follow.

I have worked on civil wars and state capture for 25 years.
So let me be REALLY clear about this for Americans:

Your courts are only as useful as the willingness of politicians to comply with those judgments.
And the willingness of police to enforce.

And Musk, Trump & Co do NOT care about the law

In President Trump’s first two weeks in office, he pardoned the violent rioters and extremists who attacked the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 while firing many of the FBI officials and agents who brought them to justice.

He is the January 6th president.

The year got off to a rough start for orca fans, with the loss of Tahlequah's newborn calf. But there are rays of hope for this endangered population that we should not lose sight of, and plenty of things we can do. Read more in my Op Ed for the Seattle Times. www.seattletimes.com/opinion/how-... 🦑

Orca fans should keep their eye on the goal: A fully recovered population of 120 thriving in healthy seas.

AOC: I don’t care what Elon Musk is doing behind the presidential seal, but in this country we hate Nazis. Kind of like a foundational defining thing. Two of the foundational things about American history is that we beat the confederates and we beat the Nazis.

Terrible news out of north Vancouver Island, where a fire is raging in historic Telegraph Cove, which has been a hub for orca research and tourism since the 1970s. A devastating loss. 🦑 bit.ly/3BSb1PQ

This is a great story, but it just isn't true. Orcas often play with their food, like a cat with a mouse. My researcher friend has seen J pod drape salmon over their pectoral fins, bellies and heads. Not something they stopped and started, but that they have always done. 🦑

Here's what it looked like when L pod passed Pt. Robinson yesterday. This is the narrowest part of Puget Sound, with a steep drop-off, and the whales come so close to shore!
There are 33 orcas in L pod including 96-yr-old L25 (Ocean Sun). Thanks to Rebecca Benson for sharing her video with us. 🦑

The rain is back, and so are the whales. The southern resident orcas return to central Puget Sound each fall and winter, following chum salmon runs. This year, there are more salmon than anyone expected, and the orcas have been here nonstop. Last week we got to the shore just in time to see them. 1/
