Year 3 comes to a close.
Grateful for steady growth and small wins—a seed grant, journal R&Rs, and new manuscripts in the works.
Thank you to the students, RAs, and lab manager for showing up with care, curiosity, and energy.
Wishing all the best to those graduating.

Importantly, it's crucial to note that since everyone's personality--by definition--is different, this means people will assume different associations between traits, depending their own (see Agreeableness-Extraversion example). It's NOT one single template that everyone is using! [16/19]

We observed a relationship between conceptual associations of others' traits and our face-based judgments (right column), indicating consistency in how we think about and perceive others' personalities. This particular effect has been previously documented. So, no surprise there. [12/19]

Interestingly, our self-reported personality also predicts how we judge others based on their faces as well (middle column). That is, even when just looking at faces, our own personality structure influences how we perceive trait associations in others from faces. [11/19]

OK. Now the results: Self-reported personality trait associations predict how we conceptually associate traits in others (left column). The more we associate traits in ourselves, the more we expect them to be associated in others! [10/19]

Conversely, those who see a negative Agreeableness-Extraversion association in themselves (high on one, low on the other) tend to perceive this negative association in others and in face-based judgments (right panel). [8/19]

Our study shows that, for example, people who have a positive association between Agreeableness and Extraversion in themselves (high or low on both traits) tend to perceive this same positive association in others, both conceptually and in face-based judgments (left panel). [7/19]

I had a long walk from Ocean Beach to Sunset Cliffs. Quite windy but lovely. Later I got to meet cool people over tacos.
Excited for #SPSP2024 tomorrow.
