Dear God

Maybe this occurred to everyone else already, but I just realized that the tech bigwigs sided with Trump because they had become so Roko's Basilisk-brained

They treated Trump like their imagined future malevolent A.I., and now we're all fucked

Using the sexualization of Brooke Shields from the 70s and 80s, arguably THE defining example of "holy fuck this is gross and perverted," to try and argue that adult men lusting after teenagers ISN'T gross and perverted is...a choice.

Way to out yourself as a massive creep dude.

A not insignificant contingent of people, including a large part of the people running the world, seem to have lost any meaningful connection with humanity, and I’m not entirely sure how we will get out of this as a species.

A teenager with a homeless parent? What? The fuck? Did she have a home and not allow her parent to live in it? Ended up having sex with? What? Yeah clearly you guys been caping for pedos long enough and you understand the assignment here
A teenager in Florida with a homeless parent wanted money for braces and ended up having sex for money with powerful men, setting off a chain of events that would have a dramatic impact on her life and help upend the political career of Representative Matt Gaetz. nyti.ms/49PSkL9

When you are a small social media site getting the same letter as Meta, Google, and TikTok, that's a sign that you're under a degree of scrutiny that is quite frankly terrifying, especially in this current climate!

Newsom is basically a Republican and Spanberger took time out of the last hours of her campaign to explicitly say Mamdani isn't a Democrat. There is no "circular firing squad." There are Progressives trying to fight and there are centrist weasels perpetually sabotaging them.
democrats love all their moderate, progressive, and top-of-the-distribution leaders <3
they can all live in harmony together under a big diverse tent if they restore regional party identities and stop the circular firing squad on nationalized media <3

I think some of the "cops shouldn't look like soldiers it's just cosplay" stuff misses the fact that part of the reason all of these guys are wearing so much armor now is to fight protestors, a thing they've been doing increasingly for the last two decades

Moreover, ICE must be destroyed

It’s funny (derogatory) how Bluesky specifically says in their TOS that they don’t mark art for adult content and then a breast exists and it’s automatically marked adult content.

I swear to god, prison outrage stories are like "they are living it up, they hardly get savagely beaten by the guards any given month!" and nobody questions whether that should be something we're doing in the first place.

Prohibited activities include advising Chinese graduate students. For reference, a recent Georgetown report estimated 16% of STEM graduate students in the US are Chinese nationals.

This would take out entire fields at the knees, which is perhaps the point.
“The prohibited activities would include joint research, co-authorship on papers, and advising a foreign graduate student or postdoctoral fellow. The language is retroactive, meaning any interactions during the previous 5 years could make a scientist ineligible for future federal funding.”

We take being able to use the bathroom for granted, but in jail/prison, you might only be allowed to flush the toilet once or twice every 30 minutes.

Most people have no idea how dehumanizing our carceral system is.

Yes, even in “"'liberal'"” New York, prisoners can legally be paid as little as a dime an hour. Less than a dollar for eight hours of work.

There is a reason that people who want to abolish prisons are called abolitionists. Prisons are modern-day slavery.

People are roasting this lede, but NYM is actually correct to print it. Toilet paper is so scarce in prisons that it is sometimes used as a currency.

It shouldn't be restricted, for any person, but the fact that it isn't for her (and her alone) is a sign of extremely special treatment.
Apparently, Ghislaine Maxwell is living it up in prison with unlimited toilet paper. Here’s what we know about her alleged special privileges at her new federal prison camp in Texas.

Thatcher's government did this with Section 28, banned the "promotion of homosexuality" as a danger to children, while actively protecting Jimmy Savile and who knows how many other pedophiles. It's the same damn playbook.
I cannot begin to properly articulate how upsetting it is to have had people baselessly accuse trans people of being groomers and pedophiles only for it to come out that they were deliberately doing this as part of a project to provide cover to actual groomers and pedophiles in positions of power

As someone who went from US history PhD-land to working on the Hill for many years, many of you would honestly be amazed at how little most everyone in DC, and especially Congress, knows about anything.

It's lawyers, journos, and 20-year-olds all the way down.
i think it's a strange attractor for people who don't actually know anything. like the theme running through all this is not having to know anything of substance about the subject--not having to take and defend a position about what's actually true--and instead it's all just meta-discourse critique
