What a week! After 5 days, the #mitnb workshop has come to an end. We had a keynote on time scales and two workshops on careless responding and reliability. The central part of the workshops were the hackathons. We had super diverse hackathons, all designed to assess measurement in #ESM. (1/4)

1st day of #MITNB meeting at @tesc-tilburgu.bsky.social. Excited for the week ahead, where we'll tackle measurement issues in #ESM, e.g. modeling processes across timescales, building a formal theory on measurement, and evaluating statistical assumptions in #ESM data.
Go teamwork <3

Measurement is interaction! Lovely symposium by @molthof.bsky.social, Nessa ikani, Fred Hasselman, @leonieschorrlepp.bsky.social and Melissa de Smet about measurement reactivity. #saa2025

Really happy that @leonieschorrlepp.bsky.social presented the results of our mixed-methods study uncovering response processes in ESM studies 📱.

Take-away: people are very inconsistent in how they come up with their answers. Talking to participants in key! 🔐 #SAA2025

Thursday 10 april, I will strike against the budget cuts in higher education in the Netherlands.

As part of that, I organize a teach-outs where I talk about the power of emotions (in Dutch). It's in a cozy bookstore (Gianotten Mutsaers, gianottenmutsaers.nl) in the city & will be very interactive.

I am also very grateful to my husband who came with me and took care of our 11 week old daughter during the day so that I could organize this workshop. And happy I got to bring her today. Future generation is coming 🙌

I had a blast spending a whole week working on improving the measurement of intensive longitudinal data with so many smart and kind people. Like a nerdy school trip with friends. Thank you 🙏

Main take-away: Mixed-method integration into ESM is super valuable, but also a lot of work! We need more guidelines on how to do that.

Looking forward to share more about our results in the upcoming year(s), but let me end with this quote from one of our participants

The real star of the project is @leonieschorrlepp.bsky.social. She's a FANTASTIC project coordinator & her expertise in mixed-methods made this possible. The best thing from this project is that she'll stay as a PhD student with @eeskevanroekel.bsky.social, Marieke Schreuder & myself

With interviews, we got in-depth information:
- life road maps to identify important life events
- 2 cognitive interviews to uncover (changes in) response processes
- personalized questions based on response processes that we identified in real-time during ESM

During ESM, we asked people after rating their emotions why they chose that number (reports possible via text or audiorecording)

Answers were coded in real-time & used to make a personalized response processes profile that was discussed with participants after the study

We used a mixed-method design with:

- 4 personal interviews
- 28 days ESM emotion assessment with in-the-moment reflections on emotion assessment

We have data on:
- 41 participants
- 119 interviews (~80-100 hours)
- up to 120 in-the-moment reflections per participant

Ever wondered how people choose numbers on emotion scales in #ESM studies and whether they stay consistent?

🤩 We just finished data collection for our study aimed to uncover response processes in emotion assessment (i.e., how participants interpret & respond to questions)

Next Thursday (May 16th, 21:45), I'll give a presentation to the general public at the Night University at Tilburg about the power of emotions (in Dutch). I will discuss facts and fables like "are negative emotions bad" and "can money buy happiness?" Wanna know more? tiny.cc/wkazxz #NightUni

Excited that we started inclusion for our mixed-methods study to understand response processes in #ESM studies.

We'll follow participants 28 days with ESM & we ask them to reflect on their response processes in real time! +we have 4 interviews with them!

A little introduction here 🙃
I'm Dominique, assistant professor in developmental psychology at Tilburg University (NL). My research deals with understanding emotional processes in daily life with ESM. I'm also very passionate about improving the methodological quality of ESM assessments. I ❤️ my dog
