I do like how much that ILM documentary on Disney+ mentions cheats, time saves and ‘getting away with’ things. All creative work is a magic trick, and I think we can be shy about that, like the work is diminished by admitting that it’s done in spite of limitations and constraints.

Will the organized & "extremely visible online" resistance always skew moderate on core principles?
✅️

We've all seen pro-violence actors—because hot takes earn clout—but is the rest of their approach sound?
Or does it just resonate enough at superficial level to hit notes for visibly online folks?

I remember how badly I coveted the @dodgethis handle on Twitter.

...How often I checked to see if that low activity account would be purged: "Have they made it available again, yet?"

Now, it would be worthless to me!

There is a lesson in that.

What if ai assistants could shield all of us other humans from having to deal with fascist executives and imperial state-craft operators?

A room full of Civ2 advisors that are chatbots editing JIRA boards.

They could manage comms with us ON OUR TERMS by acting as buffer where next in command sits.

30 years ago the marketing hook for KFC was like Toonie* Tuesday

Now the hooks are subtle like Thaï Express intentionally spelling day of week Thuesday on their weekly exploration menu because some impressionable smuck will tweet about it like this

Even accepting the premise that AI produces useful writing (which no one should), using AI in education is like using a forklift at the gym. The weights do not actually need to be moved from place to place. That is not the work. The work is what happens within you.

We are all so worried about next 5 years, it's hard to speak clearly about pretty alarming trends for the next 25 years. Social media does not seem to be helping with that anymore.

Remember when climate change was front and centre of discussion? Now that impending future is yesterday's news.

The Atlantic's @dkthomp.bsky.social wrote about a worrying trend in the economic data—the unemployment rate for recent college graduates is unusually high. One theory: Firms are hiring fewer grads into white collar jobs, and using more AI.

*This* is what an AI jobs crisis might look like.

We should not have let corporations or apps become the arbiters of personal achievement.

Immediacy and intimacy of phone interaction has oversaturated the balance we need to weigh between legitimacy & ease of access.

I would be a lot more happy about paying more for games if I knew that revenue was actually going to the devs who worked on it. Getting residuals would fundamentally change the structure and nature of this industry.
This $80 game discourse truly has me perplexed. On one hand, nobody, self included, wants to pay *more* for games, right? But am I mad at it? No, because some of these games are easily worth that and then some. If I could go back and pay $80 for Witcher 3 or GTA V? I wouldn't have even hesitated.

Humans trying to manage invasive species is hypocritical.

Colonial descendants trying to manage invasive species is ignorant and anthropocentric, in addition to the usual settler offenses.

Why celebrate May Day?

This year, in taking the streets, we are showing each other who is prepared to fight:

"Take a stand—we'll be there, too."

Every year, we are showing that we are part of a story greater than ourselves, stretching back centuries.

Life reinventing itself in defiance of death.
The May Days: Stories of Courage and Resistance
A century and a half of rebellions, uprisings, daring escapes, and adventures celebrating May Day and our collective capacity for freedom and self-determination.

Paternalism is the weirdest framing of social interactions. It is definitely applicable & useful to view society this way.

But when I look back at the advanced medical ethics course I took, weak paternalism feels so much grosser than utilitarianism in terms of motivation: even when result is valid.

pushing framing outside of transactional lens is vital.
If they demand receipts for social interactions, these 2 Qs must be asked in same breath
- who got what support?
- for how much relative effort or resources?

conservatives often hold firm when progression or extraction dominate conversations.
today, ppl hit many capitalist pitfalls that predictably fail to better society though often amoral w/o context.

extraction focus:
extreme couponing, frugal habits from surviving on welfare or during wartime, etc

progression focus:
entitlement to generational wealth, "earning" a place at the table
