So I may have been wrong to try to drive change by raising the intensity of support for climate policy among the already concerned & alarmed. This study finds that increasing the number of people who support climate policy weakly protects against partisan backlash, which is an important thing to do!

A ”holy war against fossil fuels”? As if trying to build science-based policy were a form of religious extremism?

Here he sounds like Chris Wright!

Remarkable that the founder and president of the Progressive Policy Institute calls climate policy “orthodoxy,” climate science “arcane,” and @billmckibben.bsky.social a “Cassandra.”

He’s like Bret Stephens circa 2017.

Let’s remember that Rubin Gallego is Marc Andreesen’s guy in the Senate.

Thank god with the illegal murder of innocent people in the Caribbean we’re finally getting a break from incompetent government.

Whew, what a relief!

I want to be cool, but really I am a huge nerd.

incredible

And isn’t Jane Flegal supposed to have experience as a policy analyst? I mean I know she’s part of the Abundance Faction, but why is she ignoring the Trump bottleneck? 🤔

The pleasure these freaks take in killing people is really disturbing.

Back to back in this week’s New Yorker: an exposé of luxury airport lounges and a story about vanishing ice on Greenland. A snapshot of our species insanity.

Anyway, that’s what my research is about . And that’s why I started my book with a chapter on the denialist term “Alarmist”: it really captures this dynamic — especially in the recent history of climate politics, 2018-2022 — like no other word.

For example, Alex Trembath and Ted Nordhaus at The Breakthrough Institute regularly try to discredit supposedly irrational “alarmists,” and they are both *regularly quoted by climate reporters at the NYT* as climate experts. 🙃

The brilliant @susanzieger.bsky.social has an entire chapter about this space junk, Elon Musk’s role in creating it, in her fascinating book LOGISTICS AND POWER.

Buy it for the holidays here: bookshop.org/p/books/logi...

And then of course there’s the comms piece.

One really important takeaway from Kate Aronoff’s magisterial overview of the IRA is that @sunrisemvmt.bsky.social was INSTRUMENTAL to getting the legislation passed, whoever may have taken largest or sole credit for it in the news media.

This is such a crazy story! There is *no way* Tuvalu, for example, opposed the roadmap to the phase out of fossil fuels.

It was the second country to join the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty ffs.

"Nobody's asking for this!" The oil companies are asking for it, Matt.
November 25, 2025 at 8:15 PM
I'm sorry. I shouldn't. But it's too rich to pass up.

The centrist faction's biggest fossil-fuel promoter "genuinely" does "not understand" why Trump is gearing up to invade the sovereign nation that has the biggest oil reserves on the planet.

😂
November 25, 2025 at 8:14 PM
And let's not even talk about Semafor's Ben Smith, whose publication — as @ichotiner.bsky.social recently pointed out — appears strangely sympathetic to our petrostate Trump-ally friends the Saudis.

@caadcoalition.bsky.social has an overview of all the many ads big oil is buying for permitting reform.

Further, they say: "If you hear people...who aren’t your usual climate deniers arguing that we need to scrap [NEPA], ask them why they’re doing the fossil fuel industry’s advertising for them."
November 24, 2025 at 3:23 AM
This, on the other hand, is definitely NOT a good headline.

"Maybe" not the planet? MAYBE?

That's climate denial.

These journalists don't deserve to have their work printed underneath such shit.
November 22, 2025 at 11:13 PM
Good. I'm glad this is the headline. This is the real story. Thank you to the BBC.
November 22, 2025 at 11:11 PM
The horse-trade framing here is *unconscionable*, @karlmathiesen.bsky.social.

As the world starts to boil over 1.5C, the COP30 silence on fossil fuels does not mean a "disappointment for European countries and small island nations."

IT MEANS THE COPs ARE FAILING TO HALT GLOBAL HEATING, FFS.
