The punchline is that the dominance of the whole language model in the 2000s is, in a large part, a partisan rejection of W Bush.
Bush family was terrible across a host of axes, but literacy was incredibly important to Barbara Bush, and the best curricula got coded as 'conservative' during NCLB.

I think this is the driving force behind the "pivot to video". I have students for whom I can see that reading long form anything is physically exhausting for them. It's tough. I feel for them.
The good news is that schools are shifting back to science-based pedagogy and the young'uns read great.

I think this is the driving force behind the "pivot to video". I have students for whom I can see that reading long form anything is physically exhausting for them. It's tough. I feel for them.

The US insurance system means that pharma companies are not rewarded for efficacy (unlike pretty much the entire developed world) so they can profit just as much from charlatan snake oil as actual medicine. It's why US long-term health outcomes have always been poor for mid to low income people.
