DHS spokespersons consistently give petulant, amateurish, deeply unserious responses to inquiries about extremely serious matters.
After @mandophotos.bsky.social photographed federal agents pointing rifles at 26th/Lawndale yesterday, I inquired with DHS about what threat had prompted them to pull weapons on a busy commercial strip (pictured). This is the response I got from a representative of the United States government.

More Democrats should get more combative with the media, in particular by calling out questions that have an unspoken premise of "GOP voters are realer Americans than you," or in this case, "the president can break the law if voters in a city choose a mayor according to their own preferences."
In the 1st question of his brief interview with Mamdani. Anderson Cooper reports Trump’s strongman threats to punish NYC if the Mayoral candidate is elected, as if he gets to select where funding goes according to his whims, & then asks whether voters will find it “worth the hassle” to vote for him.

ok I'll admit it took me a while to get this, but now I'm fully convinced we need a Field Artillery Mort and an Engineer Bort so we can do some real combined arms maneuver Poasting
They sip cold brew and whisper Foucault like a spell, thinking theory absolves them. But they’ll never know the silence before dawn, the weight of freedom bought in blood. They trade courage for discourse and call it progress—papers instead of principles, comfort instead of cost.

Americans have been dragged, tackled, beaten, tased and shot by immigration agents.

They’ve had their necks kneeled on.

They’ve been held outside in the rain while in their underwear.

At least three citizens were pregnant when agents detained them.
More Than 170 U.S. Citizens Have Been Held by Immigration Agents. They’ve Been Kicked, Dragged and Detained for Days.
The government does not track how often immigration agents grab citizens. So ProPublica did. Our tally — almost certainly incomplete — includes people who were held for days without a lawyer. And near...

Can a reporter grow a pair and just say what we all are thinking already? He is deliberately refusing to look at information so he can remain ignorant. Pure and simple.
Q: Just last week a minister was shot directly in the face with a pepper round by a DHS agent that left his face bloodied. Are you concerned that this is a religious freedom issue?

MIKE JOHNSON: I can't comment on any of those instances. I haven't seen or heard any of those videos

Yes, Lord of the Rings is about how you must trust the “hard men.” Just as Narnia is about an evil lion. And the New Testament tells a tale of a wimp who wouldn’t fight back. Next week on “fascists read classics,” we’ll meet tech visionary George Orwell…

Q: What did you mean when you said you're prepared to send 'more than the National Guard' into American cities?

TRUMP: if I want to enact a certain act, I'd be allowed to do whatever I want. The courts wouldn't get involved. Nobody would. I could send Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines -anybody I want

Not a hard question, except for the culture that pretends it's not the answer

1) right-wing media lies incessantly, so anyone truth-based doesn't trust it, and anyone who trusts it doesn't trust anything else

2) other media treats those lies as legitimate, for "fairness," getting trust from no one

I have serious questions regarding the intelligence support needed to drive raids at this pace.

Everyone within the United States is considered a US Person by law -- what is the legal framework being used to ensure 4th Amendment protections required by the constitution?
ICE knows where they are because they were carrying smartphones.

ICE is using stingrays (cell-site simulators) that can identify and geolocate phones nearby combined with a host of tools including Israeli-made spyware that can hack phones and encrypted apps

Don’t let the frogwater that’s boiling us alive let you skip over this: we murdered another country’s citizens in cold blood, and when their leader objected, we called him a drug dealer and cut off aid to his country. That’s freakish.
Petro objected to the US bombing a Columbian fishing vessel that had the emergency beacon on because they were broken down, that we subsequently bombed. One Columbian fisherman survived the attack.

This is the official US response to Petro's comments.

If nothing else I find it obscene to turn governmental agencies that are meant to function as institutions in service of the entire American political community into overtly partisan propaganda mouthpieces.

It’s just such a visceral degeneration of civic life it drives me insane.

The fact that they aren't scared of the Hatch Act is a fucking problem
