I skipped #ASA this year but another social media app reminded me that 12 years ago I was the lucky winner of $100 worth of @oxfordunipress.bsky.social books. Still a peak moment of my ASA experience and the reason I always stop by the book exhibit 🤓

Day 3 of our writing retreat and no better time to get an R&R 🤓
June 25, 2025 at 6:46 PM
I could not have asked for a better group of women to write with this week! We picked the hottest week to spend time indoors supporting each others’ dreams. Day 2 of our writing retreat began with a walk around campus, & reflection about how in 1 week I get to change my title to Associate Professor

I finally got the celebratory vegan donuts from PVDonuts, so I can now officially share the wonderful news of my tenure and promotion, effective July 1st.

More thoughts on this soon, but for now, I celebrate 🎉

Extremely proud of my two grad students— Anna & Ali. Not only did they do an amazing job on our joint presentation, but Anna also did her own paper presentation on her research on the MAVNI program and immigrant recruits. If you’re at #ESS stop by our MA in Justice Studies table at the book expo!

When it couldn't, it gave them driver's licenses so rid with markers of liminal legality, that it would make the job of ICE, and so called citizen enforcers, easy in identifying these individuals. 6/10

Stayed off social media all day yesterday (please clap!). But I had to get on here to introduce my biggest success this year so far— Larry (Lar) & Jerry (Jer). I’ve been growing these sourdough boys since Jan 1, and I’m happy to say they’re finally ready. Excited for all the bread making to come!

Someone severely underpriced @jessicacalarco.bsky.social’s #AFieldGuideToGradSchool

If you’re in North Carolina, run to the McKay’s in Mebane, NC for a must-read for any grad student for under $1!

I was looking to find school closure information this morning and came to the sad realization that a) Worcester public schools still posts on Equis. B) They’re not on here yet.

Without downloading any new pics, where are you mentally?

While I feel like the kitty, I also feel like at least I was able to do something about it this election #NewVoter

Amazing first day at the DARE workshop at Lehman College! One of the highlights was the presentation about NSF’s HSI solicitations. Excited to learn more about fostering quantitative reasoning skills in my students tomorrow, and to bring all these ideas to the classroom in the Fall.

I love that this article has gotten some attention since it came out in 2018. It was my first solo-authored paper & a learning experience. Grateful to Sociology Compass for approaching me at a conference presentation & asking me to submit an article. compass.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1...

Our new chapter is out online! Grateful to my co-authors, Rosalie & Kathryn, for their commitment to supporting undocumented students' mental health, & to Blake and Graziella who spearheaded this edited volume. Checkout the book, which comes out in print next month www.cambridge.org/core/books/s...

Congratulations to my dear student, Anna Vygoder, on her successful Honors thesis defense (pending revisions). It has been a pleasure being her honors advisor this past year, and what a treat that I get to work with her next year as she begins a new chapter as a masters student!
