This is what I meant when I said that fascists can make who you are illegal by definition.

So saying something only applies to «criminals» is nonsensical.

You don’t have to DO anything, your mere existence can be enough.

Systems thinking suggests this:
After a major disruption we’re all going to end up inside a system that none of us might have predicted. It will be more inequitable and generally poorer. And that will be OK with our governing oligarchy.

“Move fast and break things” may work in technology innovation. However, when applied to government this mindset hurts real people.

Reminder that a "neurodiverse person" does not exist.

You're probably referring to a neurodivergent person. Only societies, communities, groups, teams, etc are "neurodiverse".

Attached a flow diagram created by Sonny Jane Wise.

‘Organisaties die neurodivers talent in dienst nemen zullen een grotere betrokkenheid, creativiteit én ook productiviteit bij hun werknemers ervaren’, aldus analist Daryl Plummer.

Another day, another “get out of bed early and get to work” advice on LinkedIn from a serial entrepreneur. 🙄

Find your own path and means to build your business (or don’t). A lot of well intentioned, personal advice from business owners often just works for them, or for people like them.

Hey autism researchers (+IRBs): If your work is on autism interventions that focus on getting autistic people to "pass" as non-autistic, you might want to rethink your approach. Growing evidence documents how harmful those methods are to autistic mental health/overall well-being. Ari Ne'eman et al:
A Passing Problem: Evaluating Harm and Benefit in Autism Research
Autism research frequently seeks to evaluate interventions or inform their development. Unfortunately, researchers often assume that autism intervention should reduce autistic traits, effectively set....

Funny story: me leaving Twitter isn't a case of no longer making an effort to post there. I have a year of new comics already scheduled. I could let them run and continue to drive merch sales without ever logging in.

But I don't want to be associated with the jerkhole who runs the place.

Trying out Flare Audio's Calmer earplugs during client work at home. This should increase focus and reduce sound irritability as a neurodivergent person.

They already feel pretty comfy just two hours in.

When going to #conferences, meet-ups, and other gatherings in or outside of #tech, pay attention to the presence of a Code of Conduct.

Recently I came across a new tech conference, co-organised by people that are known to gatekeep and discriminate, and guess what... indeed, no CoC.

On this day 20 years ago, I founded my first (and biggest) #OpenSource project: UseBB. Building light and free forum software for close to 10 years.

The SourceForge.net screenshot takes me back. Did you know you had to make a proposal and get approval to get hosting and CVS (code) repositories?

Technical debt; is it good or bad?

A lot of debt is bad but some is good. Like we have mortgage to be able to buy a house.

When we say “technical debt” we often mean “unmanaged technical debt”

Similarly, when BigCo publishes an engineering blog "Why we adopted Y:" these posts can wreck havoc at smaller companies. They will never know though!
