FWIW proportional representation has problems of its own (all but guarantees that extremist views have some representation in the legislature). But, given the specific threat facing U.S. politics (one party has failed at its traditional gatekeeping role), PR is probably a step in the right direction

But my goal isn't to be more engaging and entertaining than the alternative. That's both impossible and frequently antithetical to my actual job.

Creating incentives for students to be in class (i.e., taking attendance) is totally reasonable to me

This debate confuses me. The *outcome* of learning is valuable, but the *process* is only sometimes innately pleasurable

The call for more engaging courses only goes so far. It's my job to present complex material as accessibly as possible and to support students as they work through it
