Can't say that I would completely trust these barbers.

#NowPlaying "Dead Right" by Officer! They've moved farther away from charming pop into more hard-left political content ("Infinite Greed," "The Internationale," "Those Evil Tories"). Not the biggest fan of this kind of political stuff, but I still love them. klanggalerie.bandcamp.com/album/dead-r...

#NowReading "Encounters," by Denise Scott Brown (best known as the co-author of "Learning from Las Vegas"). Hundreds of mostly "mundane" photos taken from the mid-'50s to the '70s as research for her architecture and teaching practice. A lush collection with several excellent critical essays.

Seen in Red Hook. I don't know how old this place is, but there was a time when loads of bagel places in Brooklyn were just called "Hot Bagels"—or at least that's all it said on the sign.

Interesting convo with a friend who owns a hip NYC record shop about a sudden renewed interest in CDs, which were a negligible part of his business till recently.

I will go to my grave believing that that sound on the Zombies' "Time of the Season" is a splash cymbal, not someone saying "Ahhh," as everyone else seems to believe. A splash is a tiny cymbal with very little sustain.

The Steve Keene table at the @wfmu.bsky.social fair was a nice surprise. Boxes full of Keene paintings, all $2. There was a Mary Hopkin one I wanted, but I only had $10 bills. I went to another table to get change, went back five minutes later, and someone had bought it.😕

if you see this, post an album cover with a motor vehicle on it.

Naming a business based in Red Hook "Low Tide" is real gallows humor. This neighborhood was (for example) devastated by Hurricane Sandy. A friend of mine who had his stuff in a storage space here lost everything.

I've seen "new lease in life," "new lease on life," and "new lease of life." Which is it? (Merriam-Webster says "on.") #copyediting

Ongoing mainstream-media enabling of Trumpism (NYT in this case): How can anyone watch the hundreds of videos of what's happening around the country and describe it as a "federal immigration crackdown"?

Oct. 28: Donate my WFMU scarf to Housing Works, because I have a fancier one, and who needs two scarves?

Nov. 5: Lose my fancier scarf. No idea where.

Why do I have to download your app (and presumably create an account) just to get my tickets for an event tonight? All three of those "Get your tickets" links/buttons take me to the App Store.

Wow. I called the Lomography folks a few months back to tell them that I'd lost the lens cap on my Diana F+ camera. Never heard back from them, so I assumed they didn't stock replacements (as I'd feared). By complete surprise I received this package today. So nice.
