This story is a complete disgrace - and an explanation of so much that is wrong with our economic system.

Great reporting by @manchestermill.bsky.social as ever.

After speaking to homeowners in tears following his "very aggressive" letters - many who have paid over £25k to him - I've been working to track Andrew Milne down and ask some questions. Yesterday, I finally found him.
We've been asking Andrew Milne about his threatening letters for weeks. After he stopped responding to e-mails, we visited several of his properties, but he wouldn't come to the door.

But yesterday we finally tracked him down - to a Costa in east London 👇

We've been e-mailing Andrew Milne to ask why he has been threatening high court action over minor home alterations, why his letters have been described as "very aggressive" by the local MP and why he tried to take Becky's mum's home.

He didn't answer. So we decided to find him 👇
After Becky’s mum died, it was time to sell her childhood home. Then Andrew Milne got in touch

When we started speaking to leaseholders we realised this was a huge story - great to see the BBC picking it up.
“You can imagine, as a 90-something living on her own, she read that with outright panic.”

Great to see BBC Radio 4 following up our leasehold investigation on You and Yours today. (Link here: www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/..., first story)

“Bowing down to threats isn’t in The Tribune’s DNA, and doing so would mean giving up on our journalistic mission.

We’ve made this investigation free to read because so many people in Sheffield are affected by this story.

Our journalists have been knocking on doors for weeks and we’ve had to employ lawyers because of the legal threats made against us.

We can only do this kind of journalism with your support.

Don't miss today's really important story in The Tribune
This summer, Andrew Milne - a City of London solicitor - bought up hundreds of freeholds in west Sheffield.

Then the letters started to arrive. They included threats of high court action and offers to sell the freeholds - for £25,000.

Editing this piece is one of the heavier jobs I've had to do at @sheffieldtribune.bsky.social, making me angry and upset in equal measure. But it's such an important story that most people know nothing about (I certainly didn't).
“I was pleading with them to understand – I kept thinking, am I crazy? Why is no one seeing this?”

When Rosie* reported to police that her daughter had been abused by their father, she assumed it would make it harder for him to see them. But that's often not how it works. 1/4
