One of my favourite pubs in Bethnal Green is The Palm Tree. It was once part of a terraced row of slum housing but now stands alone in the middle of Mile End Park. Preserved by the government after the war as essential but rest of area turned into an urban parkland. Bomb craters turned into ponds.

Visited Rochefort today in Belgium. Ran across this memorial to brave Americans back when their country was at the forefront of defeating fascism instead of promoting and supporting it worldwide.

Yeah, it was a bird I had wanted to see above all others. A highlight of my travels to see some in flight and on the water (at the same time as seeing Orcas for the first time which was another animal on my must see list!)

At Limehouse in London about to start cycling along the Grand Union Canal (this is the Regents Canal bit) to Birmingham. In terms of world history this structure is more significant than the Pyramids. Built in the 1780s it heralded the Industrial age.

Had to tear one of these down outside my building. Not far from here 89 years ago, local East End people turned out to stop Mosley's Blackshirts marching through the Jewish East End. Sadly the bastards are back and one of them is even being given the red carpet treatment by the Israeli government...

At Stratford in London to meet friends and ducked into a pub to catch the Rugby. Asked bar woman if we were being served our drinks in plastic because of the nearby football match (West Ham home game.) Nice she apologised. Wanted to point out that I was a civilised Rugby fan not a yob football fan..
