Writing about finding our way through the rubble of the American empire and finding strength in despair. My pen name honors my ancestors who became Quakers and left their aristocratic family to relocate to Virgina in the 1600s...a radical act at the time.
re: Shadow Work:

Has your inner work on your personal shadows prepared you for what's happening in the world?

If not, what was its purpose? Was all that personal development you've done only for your own benefit? Or does it help you effectively engage with the world's lengthening shadows?

This is why we must engage and not hide: "Trump is a typical bully. He breaks norms and laws to see what he can get away with. If the opposition is weak, he steamrolls forward. If the opposition is strong, he slinks away..." ---- 4/14/25 email from Ezra Levin

@prisonculture.bsky.social This is for you. I took a screenshot years ago from an online listing of these socks for sale. I don't remember where.

Great, meaty book from 2023. We need its wisdom as we build alliances and develop existing movements. Let's not eat each other as we organize, okay?

Practical Radicals: Seven Strategies to Change the World by Deepak Bhargava and Stephanie Luce.

I'm taking notes.

Trump and his minions are creating death, chaos and destruction -- ushered in with fictional stories of waste, fraud and abuse.

Death, chaos and destruction.

Words create beliefs. The coup leaders have put the other three words on the tips of every American's tongue.

Change the script.

The legacy media is taking heat from both the left and the right now that it's caving to the billionaires while also being hated by the right wing. The Washington Post, which refused to endorse either presidential candidate, just refused to run an anti-Trump ad that it had already contracted to run:

So much of my overwhelm is not understanding how 77 million Americans could have voted for Trump. Now I'm watching the White House news conferences and listening to Fox News -- and it makes more sense. Their storytelling is compelling, seems righteous. Lies seem real. This perspective helps me.

Going to therapy to vent about Trump accomplishes nothing. Getting out and organizing (in the old world meaning of bringing together people impacted by power in order to make change) is much better therapy. I healed from multiple rapes by combining psychotherapy with feminist activism and music.

"Fusion" is a concept from Bowen Family Systems Theory. Various book chapters and academic articles have been published on it. Here's how I experienced it with the man whom I loved for 20 years who never loved me back:

"My heart extended beyond my body into a space I hoped he kept for me."

We sleep with windows sealed in homes divorced from nature, but play insect sounds on white noise apps on the cell phones we reach for as soon as an alarm startles us into another day. I long for bedrooms open to the air but still safe from predators (human and otherwise). Sometimes I miss tents.

"Psychic distemper in the masses" is the phrase Einstein used to describe the state of the people of Germany in the 1930s.

What can you do to slow America's collective descent into contagious psychic despair? The billionaires are counting on us being overwhelmed and giving up.

What is the meaning of self-indulgent?
Where is the line between that and self-care?
