Ex-official explained this in a way that will stick with me forever: Within fire departments, the EMTs are overworked and underpaid and don’t have time to advocate for policy. The fire chiefs, on the other hand, have a lot more time on their hands. So fire response, not medical, dictates policy.

To scientists: do not write your press releases, speak to your in-house comms teams!
PLEASE this.

And also to scientists writing press releases, too - calling something "AI" when it was actually your student spending 12 months fitting and validating a model is disingenuous
Journalist challenge: Use “Machine Learning” when you mean machine learning and “LLM” when you mean LLM. Ditch “AI” as a catch-all term, it’s not useful for readers and it helps companies trying to confuse the public by obscuring the roles played by different technologies. 🧪

Another almost decent 911 #Buddie fic ruined by over-the-top unrealistic Tommy bashing.

Folks, gay/bi/queer men are often 1) friends with their exes 2) not mean about it and 3) wouldn't be wishing for their doom.

The rest of the country bitching when Toronto gives them a rare opportunity to feel desperately alive is the energy of the rest of Canada, for the record
The jays having one good inning and then spending three hours holding everyone hostage while they waste any and all goodwill is the energy Toronto brings to this nation, I just want Americans to know this

Twitter is owned by a neo-Nazi, the LA Times, Washington Post, and Wall Street Journal are owned by pro-Trump billionaires, and CBS News will soon be run by a far-right Likud extremist. American media still has a liberal bias problem.

I know the Toronto ziggurat style is somewhat not ideal for housing affordability, but there is also something quite swish about the design

Climate austerity from the left is an ideological undercurrent that must be destroyed at nearly any cost because it is one of the most regressive and inegalitarian positions you can take. The social and health returns on adequate AC alone are gigantic relative to the environmental footprint.
The fact that Le Pen(!) of all people is calling for AC is not a good look for the political future of France
Le Monde is calling it hell but they're still saying air conditioning is not a solution

I have never formally complained to the TTC, not since I worked there, but there was a not great situation on the 501 Queen tonight that probably warrants the complaint.

Sprawl Is Still Not the Answer
A chorus of critics insist that building on undeveloped land is the only way out of the US housing crisis. But the environmental costs of unrestrained growth are overwhelming.
