"Muslim community fears more mass shootings if gun laws rolled back". The headline says it all. As we remember the 51 innocent people who were murdered in Christchurch, we should also reflect on why our gun laws were changed and why we don't want a roll back.

This government has been doing DEI on behalf of unqualified white men, as showed by their appointments for The Waitangi Tribunal and the NZ Human Rights Commissioner, all slated as unqualified by officials. End this woke shit.

The powerful imagine “free speech” as a right where they are free to vilify/harass marginalised people (women, migrants, LGBT folk, etc) while those who endure their abuse are driven to censor themselves or leave the platform to avoid abuse. This isn’t free speech — it’s domination by the powerful.

A better formulation would be that it is hard to explain to Māori tamariki how colonisers stole their land, interrupted their way of life, and disrespected their tikanga when political representatives continue to present white settler colonialism's violence as civilised behaviour.

It’s just clips of Harris laughing. It’s the most wholesome, joyous montage you’ll ever see and they think it’s a brilliant attack. They’ve built an echo chamber of sadism and have no idea what normal humans are like anymore.

Love this summary of my win by @hendysh.bsky.social and definitely borrowing some of these words for my new bio 😂: “Dr Siouxsie Wiles helped us beat a virus. She has just stared down a billion-dollar organisation that had lost its way. I have no idea what challenge she will take on next.”

While many look to India's future, I'm drawn to its past.

How will we write the history of the decade of #Hindutva dominance (2014–24) that unleashed hate, violence, and ignorance?

I don't fully know, yet. But I share this recent documentary in which I feature.

Offenders: Artists' Struggle Against Censorship in India's Polarized Landscape Amidst Hindu Hegemony
"Offenders" delves into the complex landscape navigated by artists, writers, comedians, and filmmakers in contemporary India as they boldly challenge the boundaries of free expression. Set against a backdrop of a state asserting Hindu hegemony, curbing press freedom, and suppressing dissent, a hostile environment emerges in the world's largest democracy. The documentary portrays the struggles artists endure, compelling us to stand up for their right to contribute to India’s diverse and dynamic artistic landscape. Quoting Salman Rushdie’s words, “Free speech is the whole thing, the whole ball game. Free speech is life itself,” "Offenders" calls on us to support the rights of artists driving change and challenging the status quo. In a climate of pervasive censorship, "Offenders" serves as a call to action, urging us to defend the essential space for creativity and dissent in our society.
