for today I am planning to add the first sharing and collaboration features:
⁃ create public share link for a trip
⁃ invite friends to a trip you're planning
⁃ view and compare gear loadout

made lots of progress on the web version of my gear list app and it's slowly taking shape. features are now on par with the iOS app:
⁃ plan your gear for all kinds of outdoor trips
⁃ create pack templates, e.g. summer tarp setup
⁃ automatically syncs to […]

rain forecast for the whole weekend 😑
guess it's time to start building the website. plan for today:
⁃ get more familiar with #sveltekit (who knew JavaScript could be exciting)
⁃ first draft for creating packing lists and importer
⁃ backend: implement soft-delete for gear items

had a lot of fun building hidden developer tooling into the app to thoroughly test the sync API. The local storage inspector is very handy for on-device debugging while I am away from a computer

made a lot of progress on the app: sync is now complete!
Now you can add gear and create new packing lists on one device and it automatically appears on all other devices. It still fully supports offline mode as well. Made some changes while you had no […]

@hynek for me it's Magit and its Neovim clone Neogit. LazyGit never clicked for me

today it's all about implementing the data syncing between the API and app:
⁃ sync gear and trips (so far there was only fetching, we need updating too)
⁃ conflict resolution (how to handle offline changes?)
⁃ write lots and lots of tests for it

man it's hard to find a good web domain these days. I went on a bit of a 'Vision Quest’ to find name for my new app and website. quite the challenge: short, punchy, topical but unique and memorable and STILL FREE to purchase?
I’ve finally found one that I […]

I spent Friday setting up a basic backend and database (#fastapi + #postgres) and deployed it last night. The sync logic still needs some work, but overall I am happy about the quick progress. Let's see how far $1 monthly tier gets me for hosting this thing in the cloud.

I did notice some rendering issues in the simulator compared to a real device. Other than that SwiftUI has been very pleasing so far.

So far so good. I can enter my gear and create packing lists for all sorts of activities. Also got rid of the tabs and made this unified main screen, which feels more natural to me. Basic calculation works but the charts still need some tweaking so that it […]

Ok, so first we need an iOS app. While downloading Xcode I learned a little bit of the basics. Luckily #swiftui looks pretty straightforward. Within a day I had a first prototype. It even has Liquid Glass™🤘🏻

with the idea in my head I quickly started brainstorming what I wanted:
⁃ native app on iOS, iPad, Mac
⁃ sync across devices
⁃ inventory of all my gear for backpacking/bikepacking
⁃ easy entry of new items
⁃ see list of past trips and what I brought (this is key!)
⁃ quickly create new packing […]

In the past I've been using a combination of spreadsheets, lists and the LighterPack website to help me pack and dial in my kit. But it's clunky and tedious.
I wish I could just pull up my phone, see all past trips and what I packed for it, and quickly create new packing lists for the next […]
