I support recycling…But the sad reality is that plastic recycling has been an abysmal failure. Always has, always will be…You cannot really accomplish high levels of recycling with plastics because you would literally have to do hundreds, if not thousands of different sorting. The people who know this the most are the plastic manufacturers. Yet they have spent hundreds of millions of dollars confusing and deceiving the public into thinking: “Don’t worry about all your plastic, just toss it in your recycling bin,” knowing that most plastic never gets recycled.

It’s hard to be an empathetic, aware, patriotic American right now. To find, at this Thanksgiving holiday, what there is to be thankful for. So, today we bring it in and attempt to offer the perspective our country is understandably lacking right now.

But ICE’s latest data shows that more than 21,000 people with no criminal record were arrested and detained by ICE, with the number again surpassing those who have been convicted of a crime or with pending criminal charges. I'm particularly proud of the new pope, Pope Leo, and how he has courageously spoken truth to power in this country, you know, there's a question in Scripture right after Jesus teaches us Christians to love thy neighbor, and someone speaks up in the crowd and they ask, Who is my neighbor? And to me, that is the profound question in this country and around the world right now, my neighbor is the child going to bed hungry tonight. My neighbor is the worker making poverty level wages right here in Texas. My neighbor is the mother kidnapped by masked men in unmarked vehicles off of our streets. And that is who I am, called to love. And so my faith, that my faith calls me from the sanctuary to the streets. It calls me to look after my neighbors, particularly those who are being attacked by the most powerful people in this country.

I always sort of struggled with the with freedom and justice for all, because clearly not everyone believed that. And then as we moved into the Donald Trump years, I used to say all a whole lot louder, just to kind of make a point for those who would prefer freedom for some at the expense of others. And I'm seeing that it's almost a gleeful taking of people's freedoms that I'm watching among our fellow Americans right now. I'm thinking about when those SNAP benefits were scheduled to be taken away, and the amount of people on social media who were sort of celebrating that, like starving Americans is something to be celebrated because their team was doing it, and I thought, Where, where are we and how far have we come?"

I was talking today to a grocery store worker who relayed to me that someone had come in, an older gentleman had come in, tried to use their SNAP benefits and had nothing on the card, only to have the people behind him in line try to pay for his food. And he was asking the grocery store worker, when, when am I going to get the money? How And when's my card going to work? How am I going to be able to get food? Those are the conversations people are having. And the irony here, that it's really terrible, is that Trump ran on making things more affordable, and yet we see with snap for the most needy, for the most essential items like food, he's making it impossible for them to even take care of themselves right now."

On election night, we were doing an event for the nation's 160th anniversary in San Francisco with Jerry Brown and Robert Reich and like, 500 people grabbed into a theater and Allison, it was just a party. I mean, the Democrats, they didn't just win. They went full Oprah. It was like, you get a governorship, you get a seat, you get a conscience. I mean, it's so nice to see here. We're in November, and fascism is not invited to Thanksgiving.

A viral video of the sandwich tossing made Sean Charles Dunn a symbol of resistance to Trump’s deployment of federal agents to combat crime in the nation’s capital. His misdemeanor acquittal is another setback for prosecutors, who have faced a backlash for how they have handled criminal cases resulting from the law enforcement surge. There was no dispute over whether Dunn threw the sandwich at a US Customs and Border Protection agent on the night of 10 August. But his lawyers argued it was a “harmless gesture” during an act of protest protected by the first amendment.
