In the 50 years that followed, DLS has helped Disabled people get the guidance, legal help, and independence that they deserve, with the help of our incredible solicitors, funders, campaigners, and volunteers.

This marked the first step in DLS’s journey from grassroots support to a specialist legal lifeline for Disabled people.

Born in a Camden community centre in 1975, DLS started life as a parent-led self-help group offering weekly drop-in advice sessions. As demand grew, so did we, and by 1979 DLS was formally established as a charity.
