Easily the best indie game sequel I’ve played, surpassing Freedom Planet 2…and even Hollow Knight Silksong…as this decade’s finest followup. Hades II doesn’t rewrite the original game’s playbook, but instead adds plenty of smart wrinkles to it, opening up new options to mow down demons.

While it has some neat new ideas to go along with the subseries’ now-signature run-n-gun capture mechanics, Legends Z-A doesn’t totally stick the landing the same way Legends Arceus did. Nevertheless, it’s still a fine adventure that’s worth taking an educated gamble on.
