China is indeed capitalist AF.
Authoritarian? Yes, very much so.

I love when games let you come across stuff you're not ready for yet.
And how good it feels when you are!
Also - welcome to The Plains :)

Yeah there are some absolutely hilarious images from that time :) I'm also thinking to draw inspiration from those Medievalistmatt posts

I don't agree with people who say that developers have a moral obligation to cater to less skilled players for accessibility reasons.
Games with absolute difficulty have the right to exist too.

If you want to reach the most players, then either a difficulty mode selection or having alternative ways to progress (level up / gear up to offset skill disadvantages etc) is the way to go.
But if you want to position your game as difficult, then you might be hitting a niche of hardcore gamers.

I truly think this depends on your goals. Whether to add difficulty mode is absolutely the prerogative of a gamedev based on their vision.
If you want a game with just a single, absolute level of difficulty then this is a totally valid choice.
But of course every choice will have consequences.

Hashtags have meaning here on bsky - it helps your post get added to lists - but perhaps not so much on bird place any more?

The hosting threads? I used to post in them until I got sick of it but it doesn't do much. I still post in a couple normally - and it's important now to not copy paste your replies to those - it will be seen as spam by the bird site.

To be honest it's pretty limited what they do for me. It's a nice little beat to have but in terms of wishlists? It mostly stays in the bubble but occasionally reaches new interesting people.
And I get to see what other devs are working on too, which is fun.

Btw I was referencing Steam reviews in my first reply. For media reviews also yes, although it's of course important to make it clear in the review that it's an early access release.
