I love the sound of that!

I also want to speak to reclaiming space. The shooting took place in front of the Chicago Theater. I made sure to visit that spot last night. We cannot surrender our city to fear. We do not run. We reclaim. We build. We rebuild. Tomorrow is day 1. Let’s get to work.

We all have a role in shaping what comes next. In the conversations we have. In the organizations we support. In the policy we pass. The elected officials we choose. Today I heard youth speak clearly about the snap curfew. They are right. It is still bad policy.

Artist Vic Mensa recently spoke on this and uplifted GoodKids MadCity Englewood and Gyrls in the Hood. These organizations do the work every day. They deserve our support and partnership.

If we are serious about reducing violence, we must address the roots. Long term investment. Real youth programming. Mental health care. Stable housing. Community. This is what cures violence, not reactionary punishment.

I also know what often comes next. Some will call these youth criminals who need to be locked up or written off as animals. That does not solve anything. It reflects the same systems that have already failed them.

These incidents remind me that hurt people hurt people. Many youth carry trauma shaped by disinvestment, school closures, lack of safe spaces, and limited opportunities. Conditions like these make conflict more likely to escalate.

I am thinking especially of the family in the first incident. I hope they receive long term medical, emotional, and mental health support. Recovery will take time, and they deserve care throughout that journey.

4/4 The community I serve today is diverse. Black and Brown neighbors working hard, raising families, and striving for peace.

We have far more in common than we have differences. Let’s remember that as we navigate this storm, and hold on to our shared humanity.

3/4 It reminds me how much humanity we share across borders, faiths, and languages.

Which is why the xenophobia we see here at home hits so hard. These ICE raids are not about safety or law and order. They are about fear. They are about racism.

2/4 I will never forget when they invited me to pray with them. I told them, “I’m not Muslim.” They said that was fine.

They showed me how. A Black man raised Baptist, praying with Muslim soldiers in their country, for better days. That moment stays with me.

Cuomo is only interested in power, and will say anything to maintain it, and I’m ashamed other Democrats let that stand.

And please share this. There was only one news outlet there, but we need to have real conversations about deeply lackluster electeds. They are literally a danger to democracy.

So infuriating

This is the first I’ve heard of this. That is terrible. Sending positive energy to all those impacted. So sorry this regime won’t help you.

How do you even make that?!?!?!?

Amazing!!!!
