HOWEVER, this scene plays differently in the story, on Case 3 (ch4 on AO3)

the 02 kids found the calling card instead of it flying into Ken's hands when the police let them check the crime scene, since they are seen as the "digimon experts" anyway.

As expected, everyone from the 02 Team contacted each other and they went immediately to the crime scene. The police suspiciously let them get in and check everything (Daisuke: What? Are we really famous now?) -- but Iori’s sharp eyes noticed one peculiar detail in the safe the gem was stored. “A… paper?” Ken looked at the black card with a golden paw stamp on the back which was in Iori’s hand. “It’s… It’s not a regular paper…” Iori corrected him, “It’s a calling card. ” “Calling card?” the digimon exclaimed. “Oh yeah, like in the movies and TV shows--” Daisuke exclaimed, but then he squinted his eyes at Iori, “Wait a sec, HOW do you know what this thing is!?” “... I like to watch criminal shows to study their behavior,” he said, with a facepan. But he replied that quite quickly, and Ken felt this might be legit, but also there could be more.

so yeah, Pokemon AU for Rui because i loved watching PLZA cutscenes/main story lol
[tw: death mention; eye injury mention] Rui was born in Kanto region on Feb 29 1992, and he had a brief good life for a while. He would love the pokemon and people, but being quite awkward and difficult to express his feelings. Thanks to that, he didn't get enough friends in his life until he was forced to move to Kalos. The reason he moved was that some mysterious incident ended up killing both his parents, and also having him lose his right eyesight. The only parents he had were a couple with a young teenager 6 years older than Rui, and they took care of him. While moving to another region he had never been would be terrifying, he realized he had nothing else to do Kanto, or any reason to be against the idea of moving. But a place like Lumiose City felt really really a challenge to him. those people would be curious about his hometown though, or about the story behind his eyepatch. He was a bit overwhelmed by them, but he would try his best to follow the flow. His cousin, Yuna, had a dream to open a café in that same city, and would encourage him to go out and see the beauty in Kalos and its people. But he never had interest on becoming a trainer... Until the mysterious day of witnessing a lost pokemon being chased by some undesired people. At first, he didn't know that digimon was a legendary Manaphy, but he couldn't leave a critter being threatened like that. He also witnessed one of those grunts' pokemon long-ranged attack hitting the poor creature, and then chased them all discreetly. Something Rui was almost a pro was... he's able to sneak into places without being noticed. So he managed to keep up with the pokemon and the grunts, and found a way to get to Manaphy first. Knowing the pokemon was hurt, he offered to protect them and thus took Manaphy with his hands, and dashed thru the city. Obviously the grunts saw it, and tried to catch them, but he did a very audacious thing -- he climbed the Prism Tower. Saving the pokemon resulted in Manaphy becoming his friend, but he didn't wish to catch the pokemon, even if the creature could've let him use a pokeball on them. The idea of helping more pokemon and people against those who one want to harm others made him decide to become a private eye and an agent for Kalos. But he was still not sure about the events that led to the demise of his parents, not even his eye injury. He wanted to know, and this meant he settled to seek for answers. This shouldn't be a normal incident, or should? Everything pointed out that something had been hidden from him, and his faded memories couldn't help him out. • The headgear he can use sometimes was developed by Quasartico Inc. -- said headgear amplifies his senses and even let him get some special vision modes -- heat vision, night vision -- and can detect Mega Evolution waves too. • His first and only pokemon for a while was an Espeon he became acquainted for being orphaned. Said similarity caused him to finally get his own pokemon partner, and since then they would solve cases and mysteries together. • He isn't acquainted with anyone from game and anime btw. He might know them by professional levels, or only heard of them... or not even know their existence. • His skills could let people to think he would be a perfect suspect to cause any heists, but while he can and would break the law/rules if it is needed, he would rather not get caught in trouble. oh yea, i'm re-using this design in the AU tho. ignore the smartwatch tho, this one is specific for my digi-fanfics and headcanons lol

yes i drew this from scratch. the composition has 3 drawings of each form Noel has presented in this fic so far -- Noel, Kamishiro and Arsenemon -- with a ton of effects to feel like a corrupted archive, and give the feeling of him not having a properly "real self". Noel has the same issue Arsène Lupin has commented in one of the chapters in the first book -- identity crisis of not knowing who he truly is anymore. Or, it was what i got when he mentioned to not know who he is anymore in said chapter.

An updated version of my HCs for Rui from Beyond MV. Of course it was heavily inspired by Persona 5 design + PLZA's Emma* He's a secret agent working for the Chosen Children Network (or, at least for Koushiro and Taichi) (※ tho the OG draft was only based on Akechi and predates PLZA Emma design reveal) HOW THE HELMET WORKS: It's enchanted with Arsnemon's digi-magic + Espimon's nanotech, which means his senses are improved while using it. So it compensates for him having his depth perception screwed up by his disabled right eye. i thought of ATLA Toph when developing this ok? Besides that, the left eyesight is also improved with this "boost", and the helmet also allow him see natural camouflage from any kind of digimon with this tech. Not only that, but his issues around unstable digimon data/digital gates are neutralized when he's using that helmet. Not stated in this pic, but his outfit may look the same, but it changed to a special suit to keep him safe from anything risky too. Ofc he's not invincible as it sounds, but yeah he can at least do things like climb stuff, lol. He still has a staff. I don't need to draw it again, design is the same. This possibly happened in his early twenties, or mid twenties. Somehow he discovered he has some skill to sneak into places thanks to the Tokyo Tower incident, even though his depth perception is screwed up (as mentioned previously) yet this didn't stop him. He's quite stubborn and decided to take the role as the first Chosen Child too seriously and keep himself involved with the Digimon and the Chosen Children Network in general. So is he just... some private eye kind of person? I'd say yes, he possibly runs his own investigations when something bugs him, but never alone. Oh, i don't mean Ukkomon, i mean he definitely goes to ask Daisuke and the others for help. After getting his injured eye back... Due to the exposition to Ukkomon's eye for almost a decade, Rui developed some sort of special ability to sense unstable digimon data, or Digital Gates. While this started as some sort of new annoyance for him, he learned to take use of it at his and everyone's favor, thanks to Hikari's advice and help. The group kinda joke about him being another ESP-er after Hikari, and now he just accepts it. Maybe it's his new cool trait and it could assist everyone in order to protect innocent lives from bad guys.
