DECRIMINALIZATION WHAT: selling sex is decriminalized, buying sex is decriminalized, (non-exploitative) third parties (like drivers) are decriminalized WHERE: New Zealand, Belgium, New South Wales and Northern Territory (Australia) IMPACT: - Sex work is subject to employment law - 90% of sex workers in New Zealand felt that decriminalization gave them health, safety, and employment rights (Abel, Fitzgerald and Brunton, 2007) - Fewer sex workers working for managers, more working independently and with others on their own terms (Abel, Fitzgerald and Brunton, 2009) - Not an end point: must be done in conjunction with other measures for anti-poverty, justice, and rights
