Neath- the remains of a 1st C #Roman auxiliary fort known as Nidum stands on the west bank of the River Neath. Remains of 2 gateways can be seen, & the line of a rampart wall. Initial excavation showed a gateway for a 2nd century #fort built of stone. #RomanFortThursday #History #RomanBritain

Of course it's #HillfortsSaturday again 🥳🤔🧐

With the #EE WiFi down at home for over a week 😥 things got desperate...it was time to revisit a long overdue reconstruction of Pen y Crug hillfort, Brecon

It's a way off being finished but here is the work in progress...

Might have spotted myself some unrecorded Prehistoric Archaeology.
Have emailed the relevant person, let’s wait to see what they say 🤞🏼🤞🏼

During the very last bit of context recording at #Durotriges25 we noticed a possible feature

We cleaned the feature

Asha and Megan dug the feature

It contained 4 Iron Age sheep burials

We have now recorded these

We will now stop looking for features and backfill !

A rather large Horse Mandible from the fill of a Chalk Quarry pit. Does this bigger beastie mean it’s a Roman era quarry and not an Iron Age one as IA Ponies were smaller? I’m sure @durotrigesdig.bsky.social knows the answer?
