I get you but its possible the other artist may be in a similar spot where they would love art as well but cannot afford commissions and would be thrilled to have your work. Or they may just love to have art made by you even if they're financially stable. If you don't ask you never know.

Usually if someone says yes to an art trade they feel like its an even exchange.
