A Reform govt could wreck the BBC's funding anyway. I don't see how the licence fee offers any genuine protection from political interference.
The licence fee is imposed by law (the Communications Act 2003) (opens in a new window) enacted by Parliament (opens in a new window). The licence fee amount is approved by Parliament in Regulations made pursuant to that Act. The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (opens in a new window) is the responsible government agency for broadcasting in the UK.

Caremongering as I define it involves 1. Placing a woman in imaginative proximity to any potential object of care, and then pointing out her relationship to that care object is morally compromised in some way and 2. Watching her become toast in public life—death via moralism.

Unusually, the sales agent had insisted on working alone, refusing to be accompanied to meetings by other Brewdog staff. However, Watt wrote: “The results were so good that our team in that country decided to accept her operational idiosyncrasies and she produced signed purchase orders on emails from the relevant customers she had sold to, which quickly dispelled any doubts over her effectiveness.”

I think this might be the most Australian photo I have ever taken.

Does not mention obesity at all in the abstract. Activity is good, regardless of the effect on obesity, and I think it's damaging to constantly use obesity to justify investment in active travel. We should facilitate active travel regardless, without adding to the scaremongering around obesity.

Environmental measures that are designed to facilitate changes in opportunities for active school transport (AST) do not often account for individuals’ interpretations of the built environment (BE) in different urban contexts. The Built Environment and Active School Transport (BEAT) project was undertaken to explore the ways in which the transport-BE interface gives rise to the use of active or non-active travel modes as the primary travel mode for school trips. We wanted to know how children experienced and understood the transport-built environment relationship. We selected four Toronto elementary school sites in areas that differed with respect to socio-economic status and built environment. We conducted photovoice interviews with 41 children, 21 who walked to/from school, and 20 who were driven. Adopting a thematic analytic approach, this paper examines the similarities and differences in the visual narratives of children’s transport geographies and discusses some of the benefits of using photovoice with children in a study of the transport-built environment relationship.
