The blaze torched almost 3000 hectares in the national park, with numerous volunteers supporting firefighters and the department of conservation.

“The behaviour is unacceptable and does not reflect the standards and values of our Henderson community,” Walker said. “The incident last night was an isolated act by one individual who is now being held to account.” A 30-year-old man appeared in the Waitākere District Court today. He faces 13 charges for serious offending, including five of assault with intent to injure, two of injuring with intent to injure, common assault, two of resisting police, two of obstructing police, and theft.
