Space for Silence With so many things demanding our attention all day, we can become used to having our minds filled at all times. Even when we’re unwinding at home at the end of the day, we continue the pattern by consuming more distraction through music, videos, games. While these things are not inherently bad, their presences mean it’s rare for our minds to have nothing to do. By putting all distraction aside, we can see what happens when we gift ourselves silence. And such silences are useful, not only for recharging, but also for creativity. You are awakening to the same country you fell asleep to. The very same country. Pull yourself together. And, when you see me, do not ask me "What do we do now? How do we get through the next four years?" Some of my Ancestors dealt with at least 400 years of this under worse conditions. Continue to do the good work. Continue to build bridges not walls. Continue to lead with compassion. Continue the demanding work of liberation for all. Continue to dismantle broken systems, large and small. Continue to set the best example for the children. Continue to be a vessel of nourishing joy. Continue right where you are. Right where you live into your days. Do so in the name of The Creator who expects nothing less from each of us. And if you are not "continuing" ALL of the above, in community, partnership, collaboration? What is it you have been doing? What is it you are waiting for?

Repeat - student restates the idea if not everyone has heard. Rephrase - A student restates a classmate's idea in their own words, often adding onto the initial idea in order to deepen their and the classes understanding of the idea. Reword - A student restates the ideas at hand using mathematical language to increase both precision of the idea and the language with which it is being conveyed. Record - The teacher publicly records the idea and/or specific language for students to reference.

Growing up, I didn't celebrate Cinco de Mayo. I have grown to appreciate the anniversary of the Battalla de Puebla as a way to celebrate the positives of the Mexican heritage in the United States and the world.
