It's worth remembering, perhaps, how a young community organizer named Barack Obama won his first election, to the Illinois legislature — by ruthlessly challenging the nominating signatures of his primary opponents, knocking them off the ballot and giving him an unopposed nomination.

Here's what happened last time. Nezhad voters were pretty disciplined, all told. Supporters of more minor candidates weren't; many were exhausted or ranked Frey.

Four years ago, here's the share of Minneapolis voters who ranked each candidate anywhere on their ballots.

Why I'm getting less sleep lately: My small, impressively shriek-y kiddo had gone from drinking 11% of her daily milk at night in June to 23% in October, and nearly 30% the past few days.

Important context for the 2025 Minneapolis mayoral race: my 2021 analysis of the last mayoral election. Supporters of the left-wing candidate Sheila Nezhad largely followed the "Don't Rank Frey" campaign, but Frey picked up lots of RCV votes from minor candidates. www.mprnews.org/story/2021/1...

Today I learned that my copy of "Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb," my kiddo's favorite book — she'll giggle and clap at the sight of it — is actually ̶C̶E̶N̶S̶O̶R̶E̶D̶ abridged, with three pages in the middle introducing concepts like handkerchiefs and shaking hands cut out.

TBH these are good cuts.

For @today.yougov.com, I asked Americans where they thought Cuomo & Mamdani fell on a "far left" to "far right" scale.

~40% weren't sure for each. But among those with an opinion, a majority of say Mamdani is "far left" (and most others "left"); views of Cuomo are all over.

My fussy baby had no interest in being held or in any of the toys we brought to entertain her at Costco, but when I dropped her in an empty box she was over the moon for 15 whole minutes.

This nimrod went hunting in the basement and brought up a live mouse, but then tried to play with his food and let it escape under a bookcase in our living room.

The Lange 1 mechanical watch includes a dial showing how much power remains in the watch's spring before it needs to be rewound again. But cleverly, its designers used a nonlinear scale, nudging wearers to wind their watch early and avoid letting it die overnight: world.hey.com/jason/when-d...
