Every politician in a housing constrained market should be making this exact point. Boomers love nostalgia- that’s the point of “Neighborhood Character”. But we can’t legally build those same homes anymore. And if you don’t want more of those classic buildings, then you really are just a NIMBY.
"Without case-by-case zoning relief, the current zoning code effectively declares that nothing should be built in Boston that looks like what is currently in Boston."

99% of all residential parcels in the City would be illegal to build today under modern zoning.

Taking public transit meant no traffic or parking stress— just great company, and a cleaner ride.

Big win for Austin housing today!

We just passed the Single Stair ordinance, allowing single-stairway designs in multi-family buildings.

Proud to co-sponsor this with my colleague, Council Member Chito Vela.

Great news! SB 840 passed out of the #txlege Senate today on a bipartisan vote. Excited to see underdeveloped and out dated commercial properties be revitalized across Texas!
SB 840 would allow mixed-use and multifamily housing to be constructed by right in commercial zones. This would be especially helpful for converting office buildings in residences. There are a lot of physical barriers to conversions, but the legal barriers make it impossible.

Honored to introduce Anna Zivarts, whose work on mobility equity and Week Without Driving challenges how we think about transportation.
