Like a glimmer from a saxophone choir that’d meant only to hit a few emphasized notes behind a solo but had turned, now, to a counterpoint, she was turning to stare out a window at a mid-April shower just barely discernible, yet, in the looming daylight. As the rain creates subtler refractions and misdirections with the remnants of the fading city lights reflecting in off False Creek’s waters. And with the dawn about to come up. She wasn’t tired at all; she felt still, like a dreamer, in some dreamer’s dream somewhere. She hoped. . . .

As was evident to him immediately when she lifted one of her hands up to her mouth in an attempt to hide a smirk; and next, in the manner in which she’d tried to cover up or impede another smirk with her coffee cup while raising it for a sip. She covered her mouth with her hand again. “Tohido Stonge was…” she began to utter. She stopped suddenly. She looked down at the table, then she tried it again. “Once upon a time, he….” But she couldn’t stop laughing. She stopped again and, this time, she looked away, sliding her face over on one side in what Tohido was convinced was an attempt to conceal (what he was sure would be by now) another smirk, or maybe a larger series of smirks. But also obviously, she was feeling a little shy. His tone softened. Hey, now?” he’d found himself muttering. “I suppose…,”. But Aaesha doesn’t know. She understands little about history. Almost nothing in fact, as compared to Willoe. She doesn’t know the stories. Not much about the sociological backgrounding neither. Those wide lives. With many options. How’d they ever managed to decide on anything? She doesn’t know. Aaesha, after all, is only a math-shamaness. A girls-do-STEM girl who’s shown sufficient amounts of some coveted enthusiasms and aptitudes off, at an early enough age, to later be trained up as one of the many new kinds of hyper-specialized, technico-wonderchildren slated to take over the world soon. None of that other stuff’s within her scope.

….Aaesha was equally well-aware, though, that any heightened new awareness of clothing’s potential as a form of social statement, or of advocacy, or commonality—as was being exemplified by this newest trend towards moderativeness—would also, always, be supplemented by a dream. The showcasing — the need for flairs, the aesthetic of needing one’s garment to be seen as unique as oneself (as you, yourself, were, too, obviously)—would be as eternal to in the fashion industry as the stars in the sky are, and it’d remained present always, even in the face of the fashion world’s many new, and increasingly-peripheralized, localizing manifestations, and it would continue to for so long as any sense of fashion even continued to exist. So, it was really only the case, now, that some of those critical elements and inspirations, sometimes at least, would now need to be expressed with a little more subtlety.

… Or, in a sense, as if space, itself, was — Aaesha might have told her once — not even that particularly real. Who, then, were they to complain about ‘size?’ They’d adjusted their styles and tactics in those and sundry other complicated ways many times over, and incessantly in fact, over the past couple of years. Sometimes sneakily, too. Trying keep in mind, though, that every moment anywhere in any direction would always also be a movement in every other direction all at the same time. That was how Willoe’s grandmother had put it to her once, perhaps, in that odd, Chinese-Korean accent of hers, she thought, at some point, sometime, way back when Willoe’d only been just a little girl?

A river of names was emptied down. Into my Android cellphone. And, looking back on it now, I often wonder what i should have called it? Should i simply have called that inept connection, “God?” Or was it just another silent, chilly, case of my deep enchilada loneliness looming once again on my day off? It did seem to have a billowing about it though, like there was something alive on some frisky moon of Saturn or somewhere else … or, perhaps, even like that of a divinity? Hmm….. Willoe’d smiled reassuredly at that, and so, Aaesha had a glance up now …. over back on another, younger and newer friend and roommate, who’d been sitting alone, across the common room of their apartment, at the little table in the dining nook, and seeming to have been preoccupied by some papers — (something that’d been printed or scrawled on some real paper, and not poor-quality stuff either, by the look of it) — for this whole time while Willoe and she’d been stuck with the dishes.

Many ancient systems—like astrology, philosophy, and mysticism—exist precisely because reality is layered, symbolic, and often contradictory. Those who study these systems seriously tend to become more humble over time, not more certain. They recognize that meaning is dynamic, and that interpreting reality requires constant refinement of one’s lens. When someone asks, “Is my interpretation of reality incomplete?” they are stepping into self-inquiry—a willingness to evolve. But often, instead of engaging that discomfort, the mind defaults to blame: “No, it’s reality that’s inconsistent.” This is a defense mechanism. It protects the ego from having to revise its internal map by externalizing the contradiction. In truth, the universe isn’t broken—our understanding of it is simply partial.
