Purdue CS. I like matrices, graphs, networks, tensors if they fit, energy efficient stuff, Julia (I’m ex-Matlab), Laura (my wife), data, clean air, 3D printing, vaccines (especially for kids), cooking, hiking, skiing. I’m quiet so I don’t say too much.

Well. They passed the gerrymandered Indiana map in the house… anyone know a state senator to call?

I've been going over the responses to the survey from IACR members about publishing and conferences, and I keep coming back to the fact that I think there should be _fewer_ conferences and _more_ journals. This coupling of talks to papers is not healthy.

This is a very succinct summary of what’s wrong with peer review. People don’t give the I opinion and instead nitpick.
This applies to so much more than movies. People conflate their personal desire and opinions to universal ones.

My current favorite is people who assume everyone feels the same way about AI that they do.

Love this idea.
IJCAI 2026 will charge $100 USD per submission. Funds will be used to compensate reviewers.

We first note that hand-wringing about the decline in US college enrollments has mistakenly linked such declines to the price of four-year colleges.

But the decline is entirely driven by two-year community colleges (and by for-profit colleges). The four-year sector is the dog that didn't bark.

I’ve been consuming Tony’s coffee for 14+ years. Can’t go wrong here.
I dislike both selling stuff to make a living and self promotion, but there are bills to pay and my coffee is pretty dang good actually so perhaps more people should try it.

Understand me when I say that no other coffee compares.
Feels like spitting into a hurricane but I think I'm going to drop a video with a very generous discount code onto social media in the next day or two and see if I can lure some folks into the coffee fold for Black Friday.

Fun with streets… from 2007, here's what a map of the United States* looks like made up of only roads.

No other features have been added to this image, however they emerge as roads avoid mountains, and sparse areas convey low population.

See Gruber’s take. Here’s the issue, LLMs are going to be big. A MacPro & Extreme Chip and 1.5 TB of memory at $20k would be a killer deal compared with the upcoming generation of $100k GPUs. Much easier to push power/memory in big box. Apple missing the boat here again.

I was using the gpt-5-nano model to extract a network of connections from the Epstein documents release. It works, but I got so depressed and upset at the contents of the connections I stopped. Can share prompts/codes if people care.

I can’t be the only one who gets confused when people “like” a text message. Does that mean you agree? Does that mean yes? Then combined with the “thumbs up” emoji, it gets even more confusing.

Truly I suck at marketing but the coffees we’re shipping out tomorrow are fantastic and I took advantage of some nice lighting in the roastery to try and say so.
