One of the last of the boomers, talks, writes and thinks about UK politics, information technology, and economics.
There’s room for a Left & a Green Party, & even a left radical party, the European Parliament shows this is so. But in the UK, FPTP and its winner takes all culture engenders an unhealthy tribalism and ignores the fact, that other people have good ideas too.

I love how the obvious response to this - tone down rhetoric and anti-immigration policy - is both essentially economically costless and also absolutely anathema to Number 10 strategists.
The fundamental political-economy for the government is that is objectively implementing a soft left economic policy on speed whilst being hated by lots of left leaning people because of its other policies and rhetoric.

. @mikegalsworthy.bsky.social is chatting that leaving the ECHR will cripple the UK’s ability to fight international crime; the fact is leaving the EU & the jurisdiction of the CJEU has already done much of the damage. No longer in Europol, no more common arrest warrant. #rejoineu

European political scientists are blue in the face from constantly pointing out that accommodating the far right does not help centre-left parties win, and contributes to the rise of far-right parties. There's a mountain of data to support that.

But no, the galaxy-brained strategists must be right.

I & my GMB branch co-officers condemn this policy & its extension to those granted asylum. We call on HMG to drop these measures. We call on Labour MPs & peers to oppose this. I call on the GMB CEC to use all its efforts to ensure these policies are abandoned.
