Many former Labour Councillors have left and joined the Green Party in recent months, so a Labour MP leaving to join the Green Party is only a matter of time, IMHO.

There has never been any requirement for a Secretary of State to have any expertise in their department's areas of responsibility. Theoretically they are supported by a politically neutral civil service.
In practice this means department civil servants do what the Treasury tells them

We mustn't forget that the Greens have also done well in Waveney Valley (parts of North Suffolk and South Norfolk) and Herefordshire. It is a misconception that @greenparty.org.uk ONLY does well in cities.
