I write things. Sometimes good things, but mostly fantasy things.

I've been thinking a lot about my author career lately, and the precarious position I feel like I'm in.

I haven't put out a book since 2022, and my next isn't until at least May 2026. All the publisher folks who first acquired my debut are gone. My momentum is very stalled.

Forever trapped between craving someone to read my work and dreading the thought of someone reading my work.

I’m tired guys.

December Progress Report!

It feels SO good to draft again. I had a strong week in the beginning of the month when I took a week off work, but then the holidays took some of the wind out of my sails. Hopefully now that things are calming, I can have some fruitful writing days soon. 🙂

Why am I only confident about writing when I know I don’t have time to write?

The second I have time? Confidence is gone. Blasted into pieces. Disintegrated. Ashes carried off in the wind. Then the ocean. Where they drown to the depths. And get SOGGY.

Resources for Indie Authors
I thought I’d share some links and communities for indie authors looking for resources as I know it can be difficult to even know where to start. Starting off without a reader base makes getting on…

Trying to squeeze writing time out of the holiday season is like trying to juice a raisin.

The professional novelist must constantly struggle with the most profound questions of existence, such as: 'have I just spent 6 months writing a pile of shit?'

A week off work has left me feeling spoiled. I wrote 10k in a week AND was able to get a ton of reading done.

I’m super thankful for the time off and being able to take advantage of it, but man do I feel like a slug now.

I forget I have an account here immediately after closing it. Every time.

I’m not even putting effort in on Twitter anymore. I’m just bad at keeping up.

I hope you’re all doing well. 🙂

How fortuitous that I’m a hair’s width away from finishing my outline today, exactly one day before Wind and Truth’s release.

The itch to draft became too much, so I decided to do a small “voice test” for the MC. While it turned out really well, I only want to draft more now. 🥲

Anyway, I knocked out a good bit of Act Three’s outline last night. Words on the page are coming soon.

November Progress Report!

It’s another naked one, because I’ve solely been outlining. I’ve finished Act Two AND Zephyros, so 🎉.

Next month I’ll have a week off of work and I want to draft *something*, so hopefully there will be real numbers in December. What for? Who knows!

I have 40 hours of PTO that won’t rollover into the new year.

So.

I have a whole week to binge read Wind and Truth when it releases, and all the time to write my little heart out.

I am counting the days.

Outlining is devil business.

One night, I write 1500 words. I feel like I’ve done nothing.

The next night, I write 300 words. But feel like I might as well already have the novel finished.

True sorcery.

Working through a (not fun kind of) kink in my outline and I think I’m finally starting to unravel it and set it straight. Fingers crossed we aren’t making more messes for me to fix later. I much prefer messes for MC to deal with.

Currently whiteknuckling my desire to work on my outline so that it doesn’t disappear when I get off work.
