For decades people have challenged everything about me; my looks, my spiritual beliefs and practices, the people I choose to let into my life, the decisions I make, the clothes I wear, the nails I do or do not attend to and on and on and on. My life has been under scrutiny either by the people in my community, or my audience, my entire life.

I absolutely love that I am going to the gym. I said no two years ago when literally all of my friends decided they were going to start going. But here I am, the only person in the friend group that is still going, because life happens, and the universe decided "Devon, it's time." I also contributed to that decision because I recognized what this one femme presenting Tik Tok'er said recently: Working out at the gym is political.

Just a quick update about where I am mentally and a few things I've learned along the way.

As a child I had big dreams, but the adults in my life stomped on them, so I became a writer, and shared my stories, and now I'm sharing one more. "Why Doesn't she Sing?"

I'm learning that it's okay to center myself, that it's okay to center my community, and that it's okay to not apologize for doing so, but man is it ever hard to do.

Sit down and think about it, you've me, we have been through some shit in the last few years. I mean you watched me escape a cult, you saw me grow into being unhoused as I lost my mind and went down the rabbit hole of abuse I experienced, and now you're witnessing another change as I prepare to register to finish High school.

Today's Landmark decision in the United States of America means that same-sex couples can go to bed resting easy tonight, so they can get to work tomorrow. We're getting there,but we're still a long way off when it comes to Queer Youth Mental Health.

Anyone who knew me ten years ago would wonder if I had lost my mind, knowing that today I now write about smoking cannabis. The truth is, yes, yes I did lose my mind. That's why I smoke cannabis, because it helps me remember who I want to be. It took me decades to find something that helps me calm my mind.

Black women have been talking, and collectively, we're tired of y'all and you know who you are. Or maybe you don't and that's the fucking problem. I wrote this over a year ago, because I truly felt that Black women when speaking, were being deliberately ignored. Not unheard, ignored, on purpose. "Let me preface this piece by saying I have a large group of white friends from all over the world, who now precisely how to shut the fuck up."

We made it! In 2 days it will be one year since I broke my ankle, and a year later...I'm still occasionally walking with a limp. That's okay! I mind but I don't. Being disabled isn't the worst thing in the world. I could be a Karen! Perish the thought. I am not "Disabled" in a way that's obvious, but if you look closely at my ankles you can definitely see the difference.
