I mean… “limited” benefits of “less than 2%” (within polling margins of error) is hardly a roaring vindication of Yglesias’s claim.

Here at Moral Minority, we don’t talk enough about all the hard work our team puts in behind the scenes to make the show possible. Here’s our producer, Bambi, catching up on the reading for our upcoming episode.

Yglesias of course will never respond to this but this seems like a perfect case study in his standard practice of laundering the controversial views of supposed centrists as the obvious common sense by studiously ignoring pertinent objections.

A month after October 7, some of the world’s leading Critical Theorists, including Jürgen Habermas and Rainer Forst, issued this statement. Their contributions to political philosophy will now forever be tainted by this singular, catastrophic failure in moral judgment.

We’re all feeling despair, but it’s worth noting that an intelligent authoritarian could easily have gone about this in a way that would provoke less outrage. Trump will instead continue to do what is maximally cruel, dishonest, and illegal, and this makes him vulnerable.

Update: stray cat friend is now a momma!

There remains a misguided faith among American liberals in constitutional mechanisms for constraining executive power, but Trump should really be the death knell of a mordant liberal proceduralism that believes constitutional design is sufficient to prevent authoritarianism. 2/5

It seems increasingly unlikely that the decisive “constitutional crisis” will arrive. SCOTUS has now effectively ruled 5-4 that “sovereign is he who decides upon the state of exception.” Trump will be granted broad emergency authority to do whatever he wants. 1/5

Impending global economic collapse getting you down? Not to worry! The Schizoanalysis Project meets tomorrow, Saturday, and Sunday to discuss the paralogisms of psychoanalysis. Join us as we continue to learn why we need not be sad in order to be militant.

New stray cat friend!

The March sessions of The Schizoanalysis Project are happening tonight and this weekend! We’ll be discussing Deleuze & Guattari’s critique of Freud in detail, with special attention to the most famous madman of all time, Daniel Paul Schreber. Hope to see you there!

Kant believed that no one could will evil for its own sake. He was wrong.

Finally got confirmation from the adoption shelter that all 5 kitties and both parents in this family we rescued last year have now officially found their forever homes. I could not be happier.

It’s telling that today’s right wing (and those appeasing them) feels compelled to resurrect old legitimizing narratives like free markets, personal liberties, and Christianity that MAGA has effectively rendered obsolete.

When my grandfather, a European Jewish refugee and WWII vet, passed away in 2007, I remember talking to a family friend at the funeral. The friend, a former Leo Strauss student, worried about how few people even then were still alive who remembered the struggle of that time. 1/4

“Postmodern conservatism” is when, instead of fantasizing about real historical purges, the new deputy director of the FBI fantasizes about a bad parody of show trials in a bad movie without even realizing it’s a parody.

“Alongside bad faith, a truth appears, a method of thinking…and the ontological characteristic of this world of bad faith…is that, in it, being is what it is not, and is not what it is. In consequence, a particular type of evidence appears: *non-persuasive* evidence.”

Incredible things happening on the other site right now. All in all, it’s probably for the best that they’re being so open about their fascism now. It will expose them for the resentful, unhappy people they are and show they have nothing to offer but revenge and destruction.

Probably not in reality, apparently someone decided there was then a bunch of academics collectively said “fuck that”, as in👇

Cross-posting this here for anyone who might be interested but is no longer in The Bad Place (formerly known as Twitter). I’m really looking forward to a discussion of Nietzsche’s perspectivism!

Found this passage in Prideaux’s I Am Dynamite! to be particularly heartbreaking.
